Cultivación es una de las dieciséis Esquirlas de Adonalsium.[5] Su Recipiente es una dragona llamada Koravellium Avast,[6][7] aunque Hoid se ha referido a ella como Slammer (N.del T: Podría traducirse como "Golpeadora", Este nombre lo facilitó Sanderson durante una firma de libros. Al no haber aparecido como tal en ninguna obra publicada, no disponemos de traducción que pueda considerarse canon. Este término suele utilizarse para referirse a personas que cierran cosas, como puertas, con violencia. «To Slam» por su parte puede interpretarse como «golpear»).[8] Cultivación vive en Roshar, tras llegar allí originalmente junto con Honor y antes de la llegada de Odium.[9] La Investidura de Cultivación suele estar asociada al color verde.[10]

Intención
La Intención de Cultivación como Esquirla parece estar relacionada con la transformación. Según Odium, todo lo que ella desea es ver el cambio, sin importar a dónde lleve tal cambio.[11] Por otro lado, desde su punto de vista, lo que ella desea es ver crecer cosas y a gente —y manipularlos si es necesario— para moldearlos conforme a su voluntad, aceptando incluso que hay cierto grado de incertidumbre en sus acciones.[4]
Magias asociadas
Potenciación
La potenciación es un sistema de magia derivado de Cultivación y Honor.[3] Para potenciar, una persona debe vincular un spren, lo que le otorga la capacidad de inhalar luz tormentosa y usarla para distintos propósitos, predominando entre ellos la autosanación y la manipulación de las potencias, fuerzas fundamentales presentes en Roshar.[12] Algunas Potencias están más inclinadas hacia Cultivación, mientras que otras lo están hacia Honor. Además, algunos spren radiantes parecen ser más cercanos a Cultivación que otros.[13]
Los spren capaces de formar los vínculos con los Radiantes son igualmente una mezcla de las Investiduras; de Honor y Cultivación; como tal, una hoja esquirlada es una mezcla de los metales de ambos.[14]
Antigua Magia
La Antigua Magia es un «sistema» de magia que parece que solo pueden usarlo Cultivación y la Vigilante Nocturna.[4] Ésta permite otorgarle a una persona una bendición y una maldición en base a lo que hayan solicitado. Las maldiciones y bendiciones pueden variar desde objetos físicos, como dinero o espadas, a alteraciones mentales, como ver todo boca abajo por el resto de tu vida o borrar recuerdos.[4][15] Puede realizar incluso cambios Realmáticos, como conceder un nuevo y único modo de conseguir Investidura.[16]
Aunque la Vigilante Nocturna no tiene una agenda conocida en sus bendiciones y maldiciones, Cultivación interviene ocasionalmente cuando puede favorecer sus planes.Plantilla:Ref libro Esto incluye la concesión a Taravangian de la capacidad de Ascender a Odium y a Dalinar de la fortaleza emocional para evitar convertirse en el campeón de Odium.[4][17][18][19]
Hay más en la Antigua Magia que solo maldiciones y bendiciones pero no hay ninguna persona en la actualidad que sepa sobre ello.[20]
Luz de vida
Cultivación tiene su propia forma de Investidura gaseosa, la luz de vida, que es comparable a las brumas scadrianas[21], la luz tormentosa, y la luz del vacío.[22] Cuando visitó a la Vigilante Nocturna, Dalinar vio a Cultivación rodeada de una niebla verde,[4] que es posible que fuera luz de vida.[21] Se puede tanto capturar en gemas como usarse como fuente de poder, igual que las otras dos luces. De hecho, la Investidura que genera Lift al transmutar la comida que ha consumido es luz de vida y no luz tormentosa. El poder que utiliza el Hermano, luz de torre, es una mezcla de luz de vida y luz tormentosa.[23]

Otras
Cultivation is capable of seeing the future, with Honor mentioning that she is much better at it than he ever was.[5] While certainly one of the better users of future sight in the cosmere, she herself admits that she cannot truly predict everything.[4]
She is capable of creating spren of herself, the chief example of this being the Nightwatcher.[24] This being said, the Nightwatcher is not very humanlike, and so Cultivation keeps her in the Valley to hold court, and grants her the use of the Old Magic.[4] Cultivationspren are also likely tied to Cultivation herself, as they refer to her as "Mother".[16][25]
Something about her presence on Roshar, whether intentional or otherwise, makes it easier for animal life there to attain a degree of sentience, with both Ryshadium and santhidyn being far more intelligent than their peers for this reason.[26]
Cultivation's Perpendicularity is located in the Horneater Peaks, and forms either one or all of the Horneater Oceans, the giant lakes at the top of the mountains. Until the True Desolation, where it was overtaken by the Fused, it was the main way for worldhoppers to travel to and from Roshar.[27][28]
Cultivation appears to have the ability to kill or at least seriously wound Odium, as he refrained from killing the Stormfather out of fear of leaving himself exposed to her counterattack.[29]
History
Shattering and ancient Roshar
“I think there's only one [woman of my age] around these parts, and she and I never did get along. ”

The Shard of Cultivation was created during the Shattering, and was subsequently taken up by Koravellium Avast. She and Honor, with whom she was romantically involved, departed the site of the Shattering, Yolen, and ended up on Roshar.[31] There, they became the gods of a local sentient species known as the singers. However, following Odium's arrival in the Rosharan system, the two Shards ended up siding with human newcomers instead.[29]
Although Cultivation assisted Honor in fighting Odium, Honor still perished.[32] Following his death, Cultivation withdrew in grief, and appeared to have lost all interest in aiding mankind any longer.[16] This was not entirely correct, however -- rather than hiding, she was planning.[33]
Cultivation also briefly spent time on Ashyn.[34]
Era of Solitude
In the late Era of Solitude, Cultivation used the Old Magic at least thrice. She granted Taravangian fluctuating amounts of compassion and intelligence, ultimately grooming him to take up the Shard of Odium, which required compassion, and to master its Intent, which required the intelligence.[18] She altered Lift's Surgebinding so it was powered by Lifelight, rather than Stormlight, though Lift's boon and curse are not known.[35][36] She also intervened when Dalinar Kholin came to see the Nightwatcher and begged for forgiveness. Instead of this, she erased all memories of his wife, which served as both a boon and a curse.[4]
Unlike with all other boons and curses, Dalinar's memories gradually returned after the arrival of the Everstorm.[37] This was deliberately engineered by Cultivation to give him time to come to terms with his past before Odium would try to use it to turn Dalinar into his champion.[38]
Influence
“Storming Mother of the World and Father of Storms above! ”
Cultivation has been honored on Roshar for a long time, at least since the era of the Knights Radiant.[40] In the present day, however, her worship is limited to the western part of the continent, where she is considered an embodiment of nature and nature spren.[41] There, she is sometimes referred to as Mother of the World.[39] Even in the east, people sometimes make references to Mother Cultivation, though typically as a joke.[42] In Vorinism, belief in her and her cohorts, such as the Nightwatcher, is considered pagan superstition and usually dismissed.[4][40]
Cultivation is also highly revered by cultivationspren. Though the precise relation between them and her is unclear, they often call her Mother or Blessed Mother, and only sometimes by her proper name.[25][43][44] "Mother's vines" appears to be a particular curse related to Cultivation.[45]
Trivia
- Cultivation always speaks in small-caps, similarly to the Stormfather. Honor, by contrast, spoke in normal font in the the visions he left for Bondsmiths.
- In Magic:The Gathering colors, Cultivation would be green.[46]
- Cultivation has never really gotten along with Hoid.[30]
