Brightness Danlan Morakotha is an Alethi woman who courted Adolin Kholin on the Shattered Plains during the War of Reckoning.[1]
Appearance & Personality
Danlan is extremely pretty. She has a graceful figure with a long neck, and her hair has more foreign auburn stripes then black Alethi stripes.[2]
Danlan is an extremely intelligent woman[3] but she often acts less clever then she really is in an attempt at humility, and is annoyed when Adolin points it out.[2] Danlan's voice has a breathy and husky tone.[1] Danlan is also quite fond of avramelons,[3] and enjoys drinking wine, whose color she often coordinates with her outfit.[2]
Danlan is well informed on the politics among the highprinces, able to avidly discuss Torol Sadeas's motivations in his interactions with Dalinar Kholin and whether or not Dalinar should step down as highprince.[2] She wishes that Dalinar would relax his restriction on his camp following the Alethi Codes of War.
History
Before travelling to the Shattered Plains, Danlan spent three years in Kholinar helping the scribes sort through the mess Elhokar had made of the royal codes.[4]
Danlan traveled to the Shattered Plains to spend a few months with her father, Brightlord Morakotha. The day after her arrival, she was already calling on Adolin. He arranges for her to become one of his father's clerks, managing his calls via spanreeds and serving as a scribe. She is the clerk who reads for him when Jasnah called to ask Dalinar about the time he met the Parshendi.[1]

Danlan is part of Graves's plot to kill the king and replace him with Dalinar, and was present when Moash and Kaladin met with him. It can be assumed that she is a member of the Diagram.[4]

Their courtship, unlike Adolin's other romantic relationships, is broken off by Adolin due to some inappropriate things Danlan had told her friends. It isn't a good break up, involving Danlan cursing at Adolin. She remains as one of Dalinar's scribes, and whenever the two run into each other she glares at him.[6]
Danlan is not with Graves or Moash during the final assassination attempt[7][8][9] or when they flee the Shattered Plains.[10]
