“They changed, even as we fought them. Like shadows they were, that can transform as the flame dances. Never underestimate them because of what you first see. ”
—Purports to be a scrap collected from Talatin, a Radiant of the Order of Stonewards. The source - Guvlow's Incarnate - is generally held as reliable, though this is from a copied fragment of The Poem of the Seventh Morning, which has been lost.[1]
Talatin was a Knight Radiant and member of the Order of Stonewards on Roshar.[1][2] It is not known when exactly they lived, but it was prior to the Day of Recreance and the dissolution of most of the Radiant Orders.
Jasnah Kholin finds a quote that is attributed to Talatin during her research of ancient Rosharan texts and adds it to her notebook.[2] The quote mentions fighting Voidbringers and warns against their ability to transform.[1]
Trivia
- Talatin is the only known member of the Order of Stonewards.
- Talatin's name has similarities to the Herald Talenel, the patron of the Order of Stonewards who has been known by many names including Talat[3] and Talenelat'Elin.[4] However, naming children after Heralds is common on Roshar[5] and Nale believes that he was the only Herald to join his own Order.[6] If both Nale and Jasnah have accurate information, this precludes Talatin from being an incarnation or alias of Talenel.
