He was round-faced, gap-toothed and had a thick neck. He was wounded in [[Kaladin]]'s first run as bridgeleader. He was shot with an arrow to the leg and displayed near devotion toward Kaladin for saving his life.{{book ref|sa1|27}} Due to his battlefield injury, he walked with a limp. He was recruited by [[Lopen]] to help carry water while his leg was healing.{{book ref|sa1|32}} In [[Words of Radiance]] Hobber is the first [[Bridgeman]], by group consent, to receive his Bridge Four tattoo.{{book ref|sa2|2}} He later loses feeling in both legs due to a [[Shardblade]] wound from [[Szeth]] during Szeth's first attempt to assassinate [[Dalinar Kholin]]. Hobber is a member of Bridge Four.
He is one of the first men that Kaladin rescued during a bridge run. Hobber expresses his thanks by being one of the first to believe in Kaladin, giving him his full devotion.[1] Upon healing, he assists Lopen with bringing water on the runs.[2] Once completely healed, he serves on the King’s Guard, protecting King Elhokar.
