Bashin was a darkeyed Alethi of the first nahn on Roshar. He was the huntmaster of the disastrous chasmfiend hunt with Dalinar Kholin, Adolin, Elhokar, and Sadeas. Bashin was a short man with a large belly, and wore rugged clothing, a leather overcoat, and a wide-brimmed hat.

Pre-hunt advice was one of his responsibilities, which he took seriously. He had said cheerfully that the day would be a good hunt, as the chasmfiend they were hunting was massive. Bashin had used hogs as bait for the chasmfiend, and intended to let a group of wild hogs to distract the beast as the Alethi used grandbows to weaken it. Bashin said they should go for the legs on the chasmfiend.

However, the chasmfiend appeared earlier than expected, and instead of attacking the plateau the hunt was supposed to occur at, it attacked the Alethi party's viewing plateau, which was filled with attendants, guests, scribes, and unprepared soldiers.
