Jost is a child in Hearthstone, a farmer's son.[1]

Jost, along with the other children, resents Kaladin for being able to stay inside during the day, not realizing that he works hard at his studies all day long. Kaladin uses Jost's name as an example of a 'solid, Alethi darkeyes' names, unlike his own.
He plays with the other children in the village, including his brother Jest, Tift, Mord, Naget and Khav. He is the oldest of the group of children, and large for his age. In 1166, he gets into an altercation with Kaladin when Kaladin suggests that Jost's father is lying about fighting a Shardbearer.
