Durk is a Rosharan--probably in Amaram's army--and one of Kaladin's mentor figures prior to his arrival on the Shattered Plains.
He tells Kaladin that he was a natural born soldier and an artist with the spear.[1]

He is fairly suspicious, and wore a pair of 'lucky boots' into every battle.[3]
