Shardplate, referred to as Shardbearers, are gifted with advanced strength and speed, though it is no substitute for skill. If the Stormlight runs out, or a piece that is a focus point is destroyed, the armor becomes very heavy and weighs the bearer down.

Shardplate is ornate armor that covered the entire body. It is powered by Stormlight through the use of gemstones located at key points inside the armor, but the breastplate is said to be a focal point. Since the plate has no visible joints it fits itself to its wearer. Related to Shardblades, it is nearly indestructible, though Shardblades or constant attacks against it could eventually break it down, whereupon, it would need to be recharged and repaired by letting it draw Stormlight from infused gems. With that Stormlight the plate would "regrow" (depending on the damage sustained and amount of Stormlight)[Falta cita]. The plate can be regrown from any piece as long as the flow of Stormlight is constant, but two sets cannot be regrown from one suit. It's implied that the larger of the remaining pieces will take precedence as stated by Dalinar after the Battle of the Tower.[1] People wearing Shardplate, referred to as Shardbearers, are gifted with advanced strength and speed, though it is no substitute for skill. If the Stormlight runs out, or a piece that is a focus point is destroyed, the armor becomes very heavy and weighs the bearer down.

In present times, Shardplate is often painted according to the bearer's preference, but when worn by the Radiants of old, the Plate glowed according to the Order they were a part of.

The plate and blades can no longer be produced on Roshar, the technology or magic that made them is lost to the ages. Some even claim they are gifts from the Almighty himself to aid in the fight against the forces of Damnation, since myth states men weren't able to forge steel at that time. This, in addition to their rarity, means that they are highly prized and sought after items. They are said to be, "priceless, worth fortunes, cities, kingdoms!", they are almost always seen as awe inspiring relics to envy, cherish, and/or fear, if you are to oppose someone possessing them. Those who happen to fight with both plate and blade are given such a large advantage that they are said to be equivalent to whole battalions, though just one of the items give the wielder a huge advantage.

During a vision that took place during what appeared to be the Day of Recreance Dalinar sees as many as 200 Shardbearers abandon their plate and blades, but when he thinks to the present day, he cannot think of more than 100 between all the kingdoms on Roshar. The whereabouts of these remaining Shards is not known. The kingdoms of Alethkar, and Jah Keved are thought to be the kingdoms with the most, and a share a similar number between each of them, while Kharbranth doesn't have a single one.
