Seasilk is a type of fabric used on Roshar.[1]
Properties and Characteristics
Seasilk is produced from undersea plants that grow along the Rosharan coasts.[2] It seems likely that it is an export of Rall Elorim in Iri.[3] When laundering seasilk it must be put in a warm brine to relax its fibers and then rinsed and brushed with the grain to restore its softness.[4]
Seasilk is used in all manner of lighteyed garments, such as dresses[5] and suits.[6]
Trivia
- Despite the fact that seasilk is produced from undersea plants, it would look very similar to silk from Earth.[2] As Roshar's insect cocoons typically have stone in them or melt in water, they cannot be used to make material.
- Sea silk is also a real-world phenomenon, but is different from Rosharan seasilk in one respect: real sea silk is harvested from certain species of clams, rather than from plants, and is also spelled as two words instead of one.
