When Tanalan's soldiers tried to kill Dalinar, he brought down the platform they were fighting on, mortally wounding Tanalan in the process. He was then brought to a secret hideout with his wife and child, but Dalinar followed him and ended him there, taking his shardblade but sparing his son. {{book ref|sa3|11}}
