House Elariel is a Noble Great House of the Final Empire on Scadrial.[1]

Members include Shan Elariel, a Mistborn from Luthadel. Shan was once engaged to Elend Venture. House Elariel also had the services of at least one other Mistborn, who may or may not have been a member of the family.

One of the balls that Vin went to in her time infiltrating the upper class was held at Keep Elariel.

Elariel seems to be a house of well accustomed to intrigue. It's ballroom, full of secret alcoves and muted lighting, seems perfect for discussing secret alliances and schemes while at balls. Once he discovers that Shan Elariel was a Mistborn, Elend suspects that House Elariel's intention was to have him killed as soon as an Elariel grandson was born.[2] This plot, if true, is an example of a strategy a House like Elariel might use when confronted with a dominant, apparently unassailable, force like Venture, and demonstrates a tendency towards patience and subterfuge.

It could be that House Elariel has done this sort of thing before. Multiple times in later books, Vin refers to certain Houses being "cousins" of House Elariel (including Patresen, Habren, and Seeris). This could, indicate that Elariel was once part of a larger family that split apart, that Elariel often recruits allies through marriage, or some combination of the two.

On the night the Lord Ruler was killed, House Elariel was the second most powerful house in the city.[3] Because Straff Venture fled the city, and Elend defected to the rebellion, it could be argued that when Elariel was defeated by the skaa rebellion,[4] it had become the most powerful remaining Great House, a notable achievement.

It is unknown if any Elariels survived the fall of the Final Empire, or if any survivors made it through the subsequent wars or the string of natural disasters caused by Ruin. Unlike House Tekiel, House Elariel has not been mentioned in the Wax and Wayne Era novels.

The Ball Room:

"...the steps to Keep Elariel. It was a bit smaller than the keep of House Venture. However, Keep Elariel apparently had a separate party ballroom, while House Venture had it's gatherings in the enormous main hall..."

"...the squat ballroom building, one of several low wings extending from the main keep..."

"The Elariel ballroom was very different from the majestic Venture grand hall. The dim room was only a single story high, and while it had a lot of stained-glass windows, they were all in the ceiling. Circular rose-window skylights shone from above, lit by small lime-lights on the roof. Each table was set with candles, and despite the light from above, there was a reserved darkness about the room. It seemed... private, despite the numerous people in attendance..."

"This room had obviously been designed to accommodate parties. A sunken dancing floor lay at it's center, and this was better lit than the rest of the room. There were two tiers of tables circling the dancing floor: The first tier was only a few feet above, the other was farther back and about twice as high..."

"The deep, crystalline colors from above projected patterns across tables and people, creating an impressive atmosphere, yet making it difficult to distinguish faces..."
