El camino de los reyes Prime es el borrador original de El camino de los reyes escrito en 2002. Se trata de la decimotercera novela que Brandon Sanderson escribió, así como la última que escribió antes de ser publicado.[1] Fue lanzada gratuitamente en formato ebook y como tapa dura de edición limitada en la edición en tapa de cuero de El camino de los reyes Kickstarter. Diferencias respecto a la versión publicada

- Kaladin acepta las esquirlas al principio de la novela en lugar de rechazarlas, y la historia trata de cómo se convierte en un portador de esquirlada.[4]
- Szeth se llamaba «Jek».[5]
- Jasnah Kholin también era un personaje principal con punto de vista.[6]
- Vasher hacía una aparición como fervoroso enseñando el manejo de hojas esquirladas empleando su nombre real en vez del de Zahel.[7]

Trivia
- A sequence of six chapters from The Way of Kings Prime is included in the Altered Perceptions Anthology.
- Dalinar Kholin was the first character Brandon Sanderson ever wrote when he was 15 years old. What he originally had in mind was a king (Elhokar) who is terrible at leading and the King's uncle not knowing whether to take charge or not.
