The Pahn Kahl rebellion is an attempt by the Pahn Kahl to free their people from the rule of Hallandren[1].

Cultural Background

The Pahn Kahl harbored resentment for the centuries of abuse they received at the hands of the Hallandren: their subjugation,[1] relegation to the lowliest jobs available,[2] and seeming assimilation to the point that most Hallandren assumed their culture no longer existed.[3][4]

The Pahn Kahl people have planned for the rebellion for generations.[Falta cita] Since the Pahn Kahl people are mostly viewed as harmless, they slowly climbed in ranks. The many head scribes before Bluefingers were also Pahn Kahl.[Falta cita] Although the Pahn Kahl servants were lower ranked than the priests, they had held extensive power, as they were responsible for performing many of the key functions in the palace. The Pahn Kahl helped one another reach higher positions, gaining power and preparing to start the rebellion.

Premeditation

Bluefingers is the ringleader.[1][5] When Siri and Susebron get married, Bluefingers realizes that the power the Pahn Kahl have built up over the years will soon be gone, as the servants will be replaced when a new God King comes to power.[Falta cita] Under such pressure, he is forced into action quickly.

The greatest obstacle to the rebellion is the powerful Lifeless army of Hallandren. In order to get rid of it, Bluefingers attempts to start a war between Hallandren and Idris to keep the army away and occupied. He hires Denth's crew to raise tensions between the two nations[6]. Denth attacks the supplies needed for war, incites the Idrians in the slums, and even kidnaps the children of priests that oppose war in order to blackmail them. These actions effectively push the tide towards war.

Course of Events

Bluefingers orders the capture and torture of Blushweaver and Lightsong, so that the rebels can get the Lifeless command phrases from them.[7] After they give the rebels the command phrases, the rebels order the forty thousand Lifeless troops of Hallandren to march on Idris.[1]

Bluefingers also captures the God King and Queen, planning to kill them on an altar to further enrage the people of both countries.[1]

Vasher attempts to break into the palace to stop Denth, but Denth and his mercenaries ambush and capture him. Vivenna soon comes to his rescue. Before he can go far, however, Vasher is confronted by a squad of fifty Lifeless. He is forced to draw Nightblood to defeat them, though doing so drains him of most of his Breaths. Having successfully manipulated Vasher into losing his Breath, Denth then challenges him to a duel.[8] Although he fights with divine strength and ancient skill, Vasher is no match for the peerless Denth. Just before Denth is about to kill him, Vasher transfers his few remaining Breaths to Denth, stunning him momentarily and providing Vasher an opening to kill Denth with his dagger.[9][10]

The rebellion is thwarted by Lightsong when he heals Susebron of his missing tongue with divine Breath,[9] which allows Susebron to use Peacegiver's Treasure, the fifty thousand Breaths. With the incredible awakening force, Susebron quells the rebels' attack on the palace with a storm of awakened cloths.[11]

Kalad's Phantoms are activated by Susebron with the command phrase given by Vasher. They storm after the Lifeless army marching on Idris,[12] and upon reaching them, destroy the whole force with ease.[13]

If the war had been allowed to occur, Yesteel would have supported the Idrians with Awakened Shardblades that would have tipped the scales in favor of Idris and its allies, resulting in the destruction of T'Telir and throwing the region into chaos.[14]
