Sel was the planet on which Elantris was set.
An Earthlike Shardworld, Sel was inhabited by humans and artificially created beings called Seons and Skaze. The planet was the location of Elantris. Sel is dominated by the Fjordell Empire, with Arelon and Teod being the only remaining free nations. All these nations (except the island-state Teod) were situated on the continent of Opelon (named Sycla by the Fjordell Empire). Sel was orbited by one moon.
Geography and Culture
Opelon
The main populated continent on Sel was called Opelon by those in the west[1] and Sycla by those in the east.[2] There are two major powers on Opelon, Arelon and the Fjordell Empire. The capital of Arelon was the city of Elantris, which was a monarchy, ruled by the Elantrian King Raoden. Under the king, there was a class of nobles, who control various plantations through Arelon. Their primary function was to distribute food to the people of Arelon. Arelon controlled the area to the west of the Atad Mountains, and the south of the northern ocean. Arelon was mainly made up of followers of Shu-Korath religion, although there were still remnants of the old pagan religion that worshiped the Elantrians. There is also a small number of followers of the Jesker Mysteries.

Teoish Peninsula
The peninsula of another continent north of Opelon was populated by the nation of Teod.[3] The capital of Teod was Teoin, most recently ruled by King Eventeo. Teod's martial strength was mainly in the form of it's navy, which dominated the northern sea, protecting it's borders from the Fjordell Empire. The Korathi religion is centered in Teod.
Cosmere
The planet played resident to two shards, Aona's Shard and Dominion (held by Skai). Odium visited, killing both Aona and Skai, and shattering the two shards.[4] It is also known that Hoid visited.[5]
