A Shardworld is the colloquial name for a planet that exists in the cosmere. There are ten "core" Shardworlds[1] all of which have major Shardic influence.
In addition, there are inhabited planets with no shards or with only a splinter of a shard.[2] The minor shardworlds are differentiated by "the amount of Investiture, and whether there is actually a Shard in presence." A minor shardworld may have magical aspects to the setting, but this would manifest itself more as people interacting with nature than as people having powers themselves.[3]
All the planets in the Cosmere existed before the shards arrived there and already had names.[4][5]
Known Core Shardworlds
- Greater Roshar System
- Nalthis (Warbreaker[7])
- Scadrial (Mistborn[7])
- Sel (Elantris[7] and The Emperor's Soul[8])
- Taldain (White Sand[7])
- Yolen (Dragonsteel[7])
Known Minor Shardworlds
- First of the Sun (Sixth of the Dusk[9])
- Threnody (Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell[10][9])
