The Survival Shard is one of the sixteen Shards of Adonalsium. There is virtually nothing known about this Shard, like its intent or the planet on which it resides.
The one hint to its existence is a cryptic quote that Brandon signed in a book. Responding to the question "Give us the name of a Shard's intent we have not seen before," he wrote, "there is one who just wants to hide and survive."[1] This is likely referring to surviving Odium's onslaught against the other Shards.
The Shard's intent is only tangentially related to its desire to hide. The desire comes from its knowledge of events in the Cosmere.[2] This desire to not be caught is "quite intelligent".[3]
In Arcanum Unbounded the Khriss claims that there are no shards currently inhabiting the Drominad system. Yet Investiture is displayed in the system through the parasites which are carried by the Aviar and bestow talents. As well as in the perpendicularity, Patji’s Eye. If this shard desired to hide and survive it would make sense that it would hide itself from Khriss. This would explain the apparent lack of a shard but the presence of investiture. However, Khriss writes that she believes the investiture has something to do with a shard inhabiting the system in the past.
