This is the history of the [[Cosmere]] as it is known up to this point.
Note to others: This is an early draft of events that I am marking as "History of the Cosmere". It is not nearly complete yet. If you feel there is an event I should mention, then feel free to mention it on my talk page. The order of events here is primarily based on the [[Chronology]] page.

Events which count as "Cosmere" events are ones that have the potential to have repurcussions on the entirety of the Cosmere, e.g. a Splintering, an Ascension, Ruin being freed, or similar. I have also listed where books were set in time in relation to these events.

I intend to add a number scale to give an estimation of how far apart these events are from each other, but I am uncertain which point to make '0'. The Shattering would be the obvious spot, but there is little by the way of precise dates between that and everything else on the timeline.

This is the history of the Cosmere as it is known up to this point.

The Shattering

The Shattering of Adonalsium was the moment when it broke into sixteen shards. All of the currently known magic systems are a result of the shattering.

Arrival of the Shards to various worlds

The Shards found their way to the planets where they eventually settled at this point. It is unknown precisely which order they did this.

Aona and Skai, holding Devotion and Dominion, went to Sel.

Tanavast and Cultivation's holder, holding Honor and Cultivation, went to Roshar. They were later followed by Rayse, holding Odium, who landed on the nearest planet, Braize.

Ati and Leras, holding Ruin and Preservation, landed on Scadrial.

Endowment settled on Nalthis.

Creation of the Scadrian people

Ruin and Preservation made a temporary truce. As neither one on their own had the strength to make life, they agreed to work together, on the condition that Ruin could someday destroy it.

Imprisonment of Ruin

Preservation broke his promise to allow Ruin to destroy the Scadrian people, instead imprisoning him at the Well of Ascension. This may have happened before or after the Last Desolation.

The Last Desolation

The Breaking of the Oathpact. Nine of the Heralds broke their Oathpact, leaving only Taln, in the hope that the Oathpact would keep going. Due to uncertainty in the timelines, it is possible that this occured after the Splintering of Dominion and Devotion. [1]

Splintering of Dominion and Devotion

Odium visited Sel, roughly a few hundred years before the events of Elantris, and splintered Devotion and Dominion. The event caused the arrival of Seons and Skaze.[2]

Ascension of the Lord Ruler

Rashek took the power at the Well of Ascension and used it to remake Scadrial into the place it looked like during the Final Empire, in an attempt to destroy the mists. He left the Southern Continent of Scadrial untouched.

The Reod

The Reod was cause by "unnatural" means, and Brandon has implied that Odium was involved somehow, potentially via a second visit to Sel.[2]

Elantris and The Hope of Elantris

The events of Elantris and the Hope of Elantris happened at this point.

The Emperor's Soul

The events of the Emperor's Soul took places at this point. It is a short space of time after Elantris, not long enough for technology to advance.

The Recreance

The dissolution of the Knights Radiant.

Mistborn: The Final Empire

The events of the Mistborn take place here, several hundred years after Elantris.

The Well of Ascension

The events of the Well of Ascension take place here, roughly a year after the events of Mistborn: the Final Empire.

Freeing of Ruin

Vin is duped by Ruin's alterations of the prophecy, and releases the power at the Well of Ascension, rather than using it. By doing so, she releases Ruin. This takes place during the Well of Ascension.

The Hero of Ages

This takes place about a year after the Well of Ascension.

Death of Leras

Takes place during the Hero of Ages. Leras expends the last of his energy talking to Elend, and dies a few minutes later.[3]

Ascension of Vin

Vin becomes the holder of Preservation during her battle with the Steel Inquisitors. This takes place during the Hero of Ages.[4]

Death of Ati and Vin

Vin sacrifices herself in order to kill Ati.[5]

The Final Ascension

Sazed picks up the Shards of Ruin and Preservation. They merge to become Harmony.[6]

Remaking of Scadrial

Sazed remakes the world to his estimation of what it would have been like during the Classical Scadrial Era. This takes place during the Hero of Ages.

Warbreaker

The events of Warbreaker go here.

Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell

The events for Shadows for Silence go around here. It is possible it comes before Warbreaker.

Resurrection of the Nahel Bond

Several spren and people begin to form a Nahel Bond again. The earliest example of this is Jasnah Kholin and Ivory.

The Way of Kings

The events of the Way of Kings go here.

Words of Radiance

The events of Words of Radiance go here.

Reforming of the Knights Radiant

Dalinar Kholin reforms the Knights Radiant. Due to his misunderstanding of who they were, the title is misunderstood. This occurs during Words of Radiance.

Start of the True Desolation

This occurs during Words of Radiance. It begins with the arrival of the Everstorm, similar to a highstorm that travels the wrong way, turning Parshmen and Parshendi into Voidbringers as it goes.

The Alloy of Law

The events of the Alloy of Law go here.

Shadows of Self

The events of Shadows of Self go here.

The Bands of Mourning

The events of Bands of Mourning go here.

Sixth of the Dusk

The events of Sixth of the Dusk go here. It is placed only slightly before the sci-fi Mistborn Trilogy, and is the furthest point in the Cosmere we have currently seen.
