- The Part Five epigraphs are excerpts from Taravangian's Diagram.
Oathbringer
The Oathbringer epigraphs come from several different sources:
- The Part One epigraphs are excerpts from the preface to the in-world Oathbringer, the book Dalinar Kholin writes after the Battle of Thaylen Field.
- The Part Two epigraphs are letters from the Shards Endowment (chapters 33-41), Autonomy (via its avatar Patji; chapters 42-51), and Harmony (chapters 53-57) to Hoid, likely in response to a letter similar to the one he sent Frost.
- The Part Three epigraphs are messages recorded by the Knights Radiant just prior to the abandonment of Urithiru and the Recreance, found in the Urithiru gem archive.
- The Part Four epigraphs are excerpts from the in-world book by Hessi, Mythica, which attempts to catalogue the Unmade.
- The Part Five epigraphs are excerpts from the Eila Stele, a document written by a singer around the time of the first Desolation (chapters 115-118), and from the postscript to the in-world Way of Kings, the book written by Nohadon about his journeys (chapters 119-122).
