Raboniel, also known as the Lady of Wishes, is a femalen singer from Roshar and Braize. She is one of the fannahn-im, Those Ones of Alteration, a brand of Fused.[1]

History

Mortal Life

Cycle of Desolations

For several centuries, Raboniel served as one of the Nine, the leaders of the Fused, before she stepped down to focus on her own individual pursuits.[1]

During Aharietiam, Raboniel created a disease with the goal of wiping humanity off of Roshar. Close to the end of its development, it was determined that this disease would also be deadly to many singers. Raboniel decided such losses were acceptable and released the disease anyway. In reality the disease was less lethal than anticipated, though less than one percent of singers, and less than ten percent of humans, still perished. Following this, many Fused decided she had grown too insane in her efforts, and that it would best if she were to remain slumbering in perpetuity.[1]

The Final Desolation

Conquest of Urithiru

One way or another this is the final Return. The humans will soon discover how to imprison us. If not, well, the best of us who remain are but a few steps from madness. We must find a solution to this war.

—Raboniel to Leshwi[1]

Raboniel awakened and returned to Roshar sometime prior to the month Chach in the year 1175, at which point she proposed a bold strike against the coalition of monarchs during a meeting of the Nine and other high-ranking Fused in occupied Kholinar. With the Sibling out of action and presumed a deadeye, Raboniel would be able to invert Urithiru's defenses against the Radiants, with that threat removed the singer forces would be able to fully occupy the tower. She argued that without the tower, and access to the Oathgate network, the coalition would crumble. She also declared that access to the Sibling's heart would give her the potential to discover new technologies and weapons that could be used against humanity. In reality she had her own personal motivations to investigate the Sibling, in particular their ability to create Towerlight.[2] As a way to obfuscate the invasion while the singer forces secured their hold, Raboniel proposed using the final betrayal of King Taravangian of Kharbranth and Jah Keved, believing it is better for a weapon to be used than held in reserve. Despite the objections of certain Fused, such as Leshwi, the Nine approved Raboniel's plan desperate for any way to end the war and find rest. At the conclusion of the meeting, Lezian, the Pursuer, beseeched Raboniel for the opportunity to join her forces, which she granted. In addition, since Raboniel was newly awakened, Leshwi gave Raboniel the use of her own staff, including the services of the Last Listener, Venli, as Voice. As neither trusted the other, Raboniel knew that Venli would act as a spy for Leshwi, but Raboniel accepted Leshwi's offer despite this as she knew Leswhi only employed the best.[1][3]

Several weeks later Raboniel's strike-force, including five hundred stormform soldiers, a number of makay-im and mavset-im, and Venli, among others, were delivered to the Mountains of Ur by shanay-im so that they could approach Urithiru on foot, a journey of weeks.[3] Upon their arrival, the day of an everstorm, Raboniel's forces infiltrate the tunnels at the mountain's base, with the makay-im acting as a forward advance team using their Cohesion abilities to observe and eliminate human scouting teams. This went smoother than expected since much of the tunnels' protective aluminum plating had been removed, giving the makay-im more latitude with their abilities, with only one surprise encounter where Raboniel and her team had to draw weapons and eliminate a scouting team.[4] One they reached the basements and the chamber containing the Sibling's heart, Raboniel set to work injecting voidlight into the system before being discovered. She succeeded in inverting the defenses against Surgebinding, though the effort left her exhausted before she could fully unmake the Sibling.[5] With that accomplished her forces split, Raboniel remained in the basement to continue her work on the Sibling while Lezian led the strike force up into the lower levels of the city to join the forces that would be arriving via Oathgate. Raboniel gave him full rein to continue his pursuit of the Windrunner Kaladin Stormblessed but ordered that all other Radiants were to be captured alive.[6] Before Raboniel can continue her corruption of the Sibling, Navani Kholin, Queen of Urithiru, successfully activated a failsafe put in place by Melishi, the Sibling's last Bondsmith that blocked off the chamber with the Sibling's heart. Without the aid of the Radiants, the human forces of Urithiru were soon overwhelmed, and once captured Navani gives the order to surrender. In turn, as Navani is stripped of her royal title, Raboniel offered her a position organizing the captured human scholars.[7]
