{{magic system|{{#!:image=Soulstamp.png |system=Forgery |related=The Dor |focus=Forms |type=End-Positive |world=Sel |books=The Emperor's Soul }}}} Forgery is a manifestation of Investiture on Sel that is powered by the Dor.[1]

Much like AonDor, Dakhor, and the other known magical systems used elsewhere on Sel and detailed in Elantris, Forgery involves shaping a specific form in order to evoke some sort of extra-normal event. There are many types of Forgery that are explored in The Emperor's Soul, but all seem to involve the carving of a sort of stamp, the application of ink to the stamp, and then applying a mark onto the desired object or person.

One appears to need an extraordinary amount of knowledge of the background and composition of the object or person being Forged in order to make a stamp affect a target for an extended period of time. Therefore, Forgers probably need to be scholars and researchers as well as talented artisans.

Branches of Forgery

Quiet Forgery

Quiet Forgery, known as Remembering by the Grands, is the Forgery of objects. This type of Forgery is not illegal in the Rose Empire.[2] The Heritage Faction employ Forgers to discover the history of objects, manipulating them for aesthetic purposes. Most of the ornaments in the Rose Palace are Forgeries.[3]

Soul Forgery

Soul Forgery is the Forgery of people practiced by the MaiPon people. With it, a Forger can completely rewrite a person's past. It is possible to make physical changes to the person, alter their memories, skills or talents. Soul Forgery is illegal in the Rose Empire and considered evil and unholy by the Grands.[2]

Essence Mark
An Essence Mark is a type of soulstamp used in Soul Forgery. Each Essence Mark has to be attuned to a specific individual, and is intended to rewrite their history, personality, and soul for a short time. They are very hard to make, it takes years to create one.[2] Using a poorly made Essence Mark can have very unpleasant effects.[4] They are illegal to possess in the Rose Empire and considered to be abominations by the Grands.[2]

Flesh Forgery

Flesh Forgery, known as resealing by the Grands, allows a surgeon of great skill to Forge body to remove its wounds and scars. It requires great specialization. The Forger has to know each and every sinew, each vein and muscle, in order to accurately heal. Mistakes in Flesh Forgery may lead to the subject's death. Flesh Forgery repairs a body and makes it anew. However, it cannot restore the mind of a person that has taken brain damage, only repair the brain cells. This likely means Flesh Forgery, unlike other forms of healing that is seen on cosmere, repairs only the body in the Physical Realm. Resealers of the Rose Empire are renowned as the best Flesh Forgers in the world.[2]

Bloodsealing

Bloodsealing is a type of Forgery practiced by the Bloodsealers of Dzhamar.[4] Bloodsealers use soulstamps made of bone and their target's blood as ink.[3] Among their abilities are creating constructs of human or animal bones known as skeletals, tracking a target with blood[5] and making wards that would alert the Bloodsealer if their targets leave the vicinity of the Bloodseal.[3] After a day or so, the blood is useless to a Bloodsealer, so fresh blood is a requirement.[6]

Bloodseal
A Bloodseal is a type of soulstamp used in Bloodsealing. It is made of bone and uses blood as ink.[3]

Skeletal
A skeletal is a construct created to bring the bones of a creature back to life.[3] They do not tire and are relentless. They carry soulstamps made with blood someone on them. The bones of the skeletals must be whole for the skeletal to function. If pivotal bones are removed or broken, the creature will collapse and not move until it is repaired. If any of the bones are broken beyond repair or lost, wooden carvings can take their place. Small alterations to the bones are permissible, like sharpening the bones to make removing them difficult.[5]
