Prior to The Way of Kings, all Cosmere books were published in Chronological order, but some important stories had been skipped{{qa ref|692|10|How is the Way of Kings related to the rest of the cosmere?|date=2010-10-15}}. From other interviews, we know that [[Dragonsteel]] comes at the beginning of the series{{qa ref|988|4|What time period do they all fit in?|date=2012-12-6}}. [[White Sand]] is one of the earliest, but where it is placed relative to Elantris is uncertain. From the time of the [[Shattering]] to the Prelude of The Stormlight Archive might be around 6,000 years{{qa ref|1091|1|How long from the Shattering to the Prelude in Way of Kings?|date=2014-11-29}}. Another of the skipped novels is set on [[Ashyn]]{{qa ref|692|11|The Silence Divine|date=2010-10-15}}.
