At the time of the events of Mistborn: The Final Empire, only eight basic allomantic metals are known, with [[Gold]] and [[Atium]] being referred to as 'Higher Metals'. The eight basic metals are [[iron]], [[steel]], [[tin]], [[pewter]], [[zinc]], [[brass]], [[copper]], and [[bronze]].{{ref|"Mistborn: The Final Empire" Ars Arcanum}} By the end of the novel, [[Aluminum]] is introduced as another allomantic metal.
