Aunque comúnmente se piensa en las Elevaciones como niveles discretos, en realidad no son más que marcadores de una progresión continua. Cada [[Aliento|aliento]] acumulado incrementa el poder del [[Despertante|despertante]]. Por ejemplo, aunque el reconocimiento perfecto del color se alcanza con la Tercera Elevación, cada aliento acumulado antes de eso aumenta, de forma progresiva, la habilidad de despertante de distinguir los colores. Alcanzar un nuevo nivel de Elevación sólo marca el punto en el cuál dichas habilidades alcanzan su potencial completo. Hay algunas excepciones a esto, como la distorsión del color, que es exclusiva de la Décima Elevación.
 
El número de alientos que se requiere para alcanzar un nivel concreto de elevación no es exacto.
