I meant to ask you about this and then forgot. Should I be adding the WoR spoiler tag as I add WoR info? Does that still matter at this point? I occasionally come across pages that have it... KalynaAnne (talk) 07:55, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

WoR Spoiler tag?

I meant to ask you about this and then forgot. Should I be adding the WoR spoiler tag as I add WoR info? Does that still matter at this point? I occasionally come across pages that have it... KalynaAnne (talk) 07:55, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

New Guy Wanting to Help

Thanks for your help with my recent work. I'm wondering if there is a way to look through articles that need attention more than others -- like the Shardplate article I rewrote. I just finished both Stormlight books and I'd like to help out while I still have them fresh on my mind.

Thanks! --Voidbinder (talk) 19:16, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for YOUR help, it's been great to see such good thorough work being done. There's a few places to look for new things, especially about Stormlight, you can check out the Category: Words of Radiance to find books that may need updating, or Category: Articles that need updates for non-book specific pages. Category: Articles in need of attention has lots of pages, and some more specific categories. I also tend to click the Random Page link until I see something I want to tackle. --Joe ST (talk) 19:52, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Fixed Special Pages

It should be working for you now. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 03:42, 8 June 2012 (EDT)

Awesome, thanks, what was up with it? --Joe ST (talk) 03:59, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
Not sure, a PHP variable needed to have more memory basically. Not sure why it worked on the older, crappier host there though. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 04:42, 8 June 2012 (EDT)

Site Being Faster?

Today the wiki and the site is running extremely fast (especially compared to the crap service we've had earlier). Do you agree? -- Chaos2651 (talk) 16:27, 3 June 2012 (EDT)

Its faster now yes, much more usable :D --16:38, 3 June 2012 (EDT)
Weird because actually our resources are being more restricted than before kinda... very odd. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 21:06, 3 June 2012 (EDT)
The speed is intermittent, and I'm still getting some errors, but yeah, its awesome :D --Joe ST (talk) 04:29, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

Administratorship

Thank you for the stellar work you have done on the wiki. I would like to apologise for my own extended absence and to grant you powers as an administrator. Hopefully I will be able to find time in the near future to return to the wiki and assist you. I have sent a message to Chaos2651 requesting ConfirmEdit and ParserFunctions plugins so hopefully the spam issue will soon be resolved. Thank you again for your dedication.--Beligaronia (talk) 22:40, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you so much :) and indeed I've missed you :D I'll try my best to be all adminy and stuff, but I also may have some downtime soon, with finals coming up and stuff. Thank you :D 22:43, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and another good one might be (the official) DPL plugin (or one of the forks if you wish for more functionality) It'd be much better than the lists of characters I've recently been adding to {page}/Characters and then transcluded where needed, and I'm sure I could find other places for it to be used :D. CharacterInfobox

Do we want to use the switches instead of the subtemplates? It would seem easier to implement if it isn't server intensive or something like that. Your thoughts?--Beligaronia (talk) 23:57, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

I guess a #switch: for the world though the race|homeland|etc → world translation could be its own template, much like the homeland|race → race one might be better. I was actually gonna wait until more consensus/organization happens before doing much more on those, hehehe. I hear ParserFunctions is probably more server intensive than multiple-deep transclude, though I dont know for sure. Joe ST 00:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Stub template

What do you think about the stub template going at the bottom of an article, rather than in the middle. Wikipedia puts it at the bottom and it would cause less disruption to what little information these pages have. Another option would be to put it at the very top, above the text if you're worried it will go unnoticed.--Beligaronia (talk) 22:49, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I put it under the first bit so that people could easily tell it was a stub, but still be able to read the first bit. At the very top I guess would work, the bottom not so much since it'd be hidden though wp does do that yeah..... Joe ST 09:23, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Though, I guess if the template is at the bottom and you cannot see it straight away, it's obviously not needed XD Joe ST 12:12, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Advertising

I assume adding advertising for products isn't wanted on the wiki. I don't know how and don't hink I have the authority to remove this: Effective_Attributes_Of_The_Amazon_Kindle - Jay

Thanks Jay, we do get the occasional spammer. Joe ST

Template:Character

That fixed with the hick up (I am not familiar with the {{#!: function, maybe it is what allows you to avoid the wiki syntax table inside a table problem or it was fixed in on of the mediawiki updates since last time I looked. Btw, why don't you use the standard 'Template:Infobox' form Wikipedia? --Mbg (talk) 18:34, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

The . Basically because I dont really like the idea of . We dont use WP:T:Infobox because I've been incrementally refactoring our version for a while, and I (as the templates maintainer) prefer my own syntax to WP's. --Joe ST (talk) 19:58, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Templates

Template Syntax

I know I dont need to put the namespace in template calls, however both form works and IMO the later improve readability. Similarly I find templates names like B counter productive, when they are used in regular pages, which supposed to be edited by regular contributor, who don't necessary know what a template is. Templates suppose to make life easier for people to add content. --Mbg (talk) 07:06, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Indeed, using b manually is discouraged/depreciated, that's why its not documented (other than to show all the possible conversions). Adding Template: before every template call does not improve readability, it just makes articles longer and less maintainable. --Joe ST (talk) 07:12, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Template:Move

Reagrding your revert, Please take care with reverts, if you think that the line brake was necessary there put it back, my intention was to fix the issue that caused the move template to include itself in the articles that need need attention category, which you reverted. (personally, I think that using the <hr> tag there will look better, but its your call) --Mbg (talk) 07:12, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

It was intentionally included in that category, as it relates to all of those pages. --Joe ST (talk) 07:14, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Maybe we should change that, ideally the category should include only articles that need attention(similar to how the rest of the notice templates work) and if necessary the role of the template can be documented in the category page. --Mbg (talk) 07:24, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead, that sounds like a good compromise. --Joe ST (talk) 07:26, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Template place

Can you remove the white space from the image row on the Template:place or add an optional parameter todo so. So that I can fit the map images better. (for example Jah Keved) --Mbg (talk) 03:10, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

there you go, {map-width} --Joe ST (talk) 09:52, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks.--Mbg (talk) 00:44, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Request for reflist

I think that we might use a reflist template, for article with large reference list for example(and growing), to avoid unnessary spam. Unless we already have a template that encapsulate the reference tag and allow columns. --Mbg (talk) 01:30, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Or just <references /> with {cols} for the number of columns
Not as pretty but it works, thanks. --Mbg (talk) 06:33, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Syntax

I notice you keep changing the syntax to ;xx : is it because you like the end result better, don't like bullet points or because its a easier to write than xx,? --Mbg (talk) 00:43, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

all of the above, and more. It gives the same result but is easier to edit. --Joe ST (talk) 11:28, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
I agree it is easier to edit, but is it easier to read? I find the harder way to be more fluent and to take less space, compared with the easier one. I don't mind to put the extra work, so unless you object I would prefer to use the second syntax where it fits. --Mbg (talk) 11:44, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
That section needs reformatting anyway, I doubt it will look like that when it's done, but whatever, I like ;: --Joe ST (talk) 11:57, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Images

What is your policy on images, for example regarding a test full illustration I found here. --Mbg (talk) 06:33, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Do we want the images of the Heralds on their individual Herald pages? Just so people can see what they look like? On a related side-note, since it seems like the Heralds on the chapter headings are related to stuff that goes on in those chapters, should we put the images (or the names) alongside the appropriate chapters in the book summaries? Images could be cumbersome, I'll admit. Names could be better. If we do want images (on the Herald pages), I've got all of them ready to be uploaded onto here. ----Little wilson (talk) 07:43, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Hey Wilson, I say go for it :D but you might want to wait on the rest of the staff's opinions first. --Joe ST (talk) 12:48, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Is there a way to add citation if fanart is used on a page? For example, the Sarene page? It doesn't seem fair to me that people aren't getting credit for their work. ----KLStarre (talk) 9:25, 14 January 2015 (EST)

Citations for images go on the actual file page as seen here: File:Sarene_portrait.png.--WeiryWriter (talk) 03:31, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Revert

Regarding the revert. As I explained in the edit summary the navbar title is misleading and do not represent the content of the navbar. (It say's "Published works" and include unpublished titles, as well as unconfirmed working names like 'The Highprince of War'). Thus one or the other should be fixed. So why did you use Revert? --Mbg (talk) 14:58, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Characters for creatures

I'm not entirely comfortable using the Character infobox for nonsentient creatures like Scrak. I don't know what we should do about it, but I just wanted to you let you know :P -- Chaos2651 (talk) 21:39, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Moving Epigraphs?

Why are we doing that? It's nice to have all the epigraphs in one place, and if we start moving pages we're going to have to go re-cite a whole bunch of stuff, aren't we? It's also easier to give an epigraph number, instead of something like "Death Delirium quote 5" because no one knows where that could be found in the book.

I guess we wont then. --19:19, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I stuck that in the wrong spot, I was on my way out the door. XD Also, do you think Herald is really a profession? I've always seen it as more of a title, so I'm curious to hear your thinking behind it --Windrunner (talk) 23:21, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

I like having Epigraphs in /Epigraphs, though that article needs severely enhanced appearance. Also, I think Herald is a title. You can't exactly go to a job fair and apply to be a Herald of the Almighty :P -- Chaos2651 (talk) 03:59, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
They certainly need work, title is probably a better word for it too :D --Joe ST (talk) 06:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Discussions that should happen

 • For the "featured in" ({books} parameter) row of infoboxes, should we sometimes attempt to specify to books. For example, characters that only appear in one of the Mistborn books: should they be in the whole of the trilogy, or just that book? I have (probably mistakenly) been preferring the series over individual books. This, I think, makes sense for Stormlight so far, as we have no idea who's going to disappear. But for Mistborn, it may be better to be specific? --Joe ST (talk) 18:09, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Revert Mobile Optimizations in CSS

I don't remember where exactly you put those mobile optimizations (I think it was in CSS or the javascript), but we should really revert them. It moves the elements on top to sometimes be behind the logo, which sometimes makes it impossible to Search or use any of the other tabs on the top. I would prefer zooming in and having full functionality. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 21:15, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Sure, it doesn't really make much sense impeding usage of it. --Joe ST (talk) 05:52, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

(from /boxy)

I'm personally not a fan of this idea, because I think it's valuable that 1. People should immediately be able to see how many references an article has and 2. This would deemphasize the navboxes that are used for, you know, actual navigation. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 23:51, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

I tend to agree. Also the whole navbox aspect seems to kill the hyperlinks between the little number and the citations themselves, which is kind of obnoxious. --Windrunner (talk) 03:15, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
yeah the auto-closing buggers everything up. I was just thinking it might be nice to have them in boxes, and we could have 'external links' in a box/section', and stuff. --Joe ST (talk) 08:59, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

(from /sa/lang) Dula

One of those languages is Dula, Joe :P --Windrunner (talk) 06:42, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

I know that, I was just pulling everything out of the words list so I could remove those words. Should I copy that quote onto the Dula page? How about the speakers page? --Joe ST (talk) 07:32, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
Dula page sure. I don't know what a speakers page is though. --Windrunner (talk) 16:40, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
The character who said it (I'm guessing Galladon ?) --Joe ST (talk) 17:40, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Epics

Hey, would you mind making an Epics page so that I can fill in all of that info? And is it correct that only admins can create new pages? -- Mailliw73

Edit: Nevermind, WeiryWriter helped me out.
