Events and the Chronology

Hero of Ages/Alloy of Law/Warbreaker/Way of Kings Chronology

The page doesn't seem to be quite right.

From the TOR Q&A, Brandon Says:

The Alloy of Law takes place around 300 years after The Hero of Ages and several hundred years before the events in The Way of Kings. That does put it around the same time as Warbreaker.

When Sanderson refers to WoK here, I think he's referring to the main body, not the prelude from 4500 years ago.

So, if we use Way of Kings as time 0, we should have:

Rewrite of the Chronology

Have completely re-written the page hopefully that's not too much info in the Elantris and Mistborn sections, I didn't have Warbreaker, AoL or WoK with me so they're all about the same, will add to them and provide references for the rest soon.--Voidus 06:17, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

This was totally awesome, man. Like, seriously. I edited the time between Hero of Ages and Alloy to be correct (it's 341 after Sazed's ascension). I may want to edit the Scadrial timeline to be in terms of the Lord Ruler's ascension, but we'll see! Awesome job, man. -- Chaos2651 06:15, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Yeah I did think about that, I wasn't sure which to go for, Kelsiers return doesn't seem like a big enough event to base a timeline around, but TLR ascension is quite a bit in the past, so there would be a massive timeline gap of ~1000 years, but then I suppose it won't really make that much difference.--Voidus 03:57, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Maybe a few subsections should be made: a subheading for the Ascension (of Rashek), and a second one for the Ascension of Sazed, Then you can reference internal events to a single or multiple boundaries if you want. (AKA mb4 can be referenced to Sazed, mb1-3 can be referenced to both, Alendi's time sit's before Rashek and only references that, and any internal Final Empire stuff can go from the start (aka the games (which I just lost))) Joe ST 05:33, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

You have to remember that the years may have been different due to the changing of the orbit of Scadrial.

I think for Final Empire timescales, the Lord Ruler's Ascension is the *only* thing that they'd base their calendars on. So while the numbers are rather big, it makes sense in-world. For post-Rebirth times, it makes sense to change the calendar in terms of Sazed. I just shot off a tweet to Peter asking if the Final Empire years are significantly different from other Scadrial years. When Peter has answered my timescale questions about Scadrial before, he's always said that it is an Earth-analogue world. For example, Scadrial has seven days in a week (with no qualification of in-FE or not). So I am hoping that the years are the same, even though that makes little astronomical sense. Definitely a good question to ask. TLR's moving of Scadrial closer to its star should have sped up its revolutions, thus shortening the year. Perhaps not noticeably, but it should have been. Let us know when you find out; I'll probably end up using this (and other notes) to put together a graphical version (at some point).--Darniil 18:22, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Yes the year would have to be different I think, my physics isn't great but I thought that there was only one speed you could travel at and produce a stable orbit of a set radius, Chaos could probably do more on that but yeah the year would definitely be different so I'm thinking the timeline will have to be split into TLR time and Sazed time.--Voidus 18:38, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Events on Roshar

I have updated some dates in relation to several existing dates, but I have encountered a contradiction. In The way of kings, chapter 37, titled "FIVE AND A HALF YEARS AGO" it said "Now thirteen years of age, Tien". Does anyone in relation to what date, the chapter titles are dated? (Considering the way the book is built, I suspect it's in relation to the last event in the book.) --Mbg (talk) 13:55, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

It corresponds to their order in the timeline of the cosmere, not publication order -- Chaos2651 (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
