Eventually [[Brightlord]] [[Amaram]] came to town for recruiting new soldiers. Lirin thought that they were safe because they are of the second nahn and his and Kaladin's work as surgeons is vital. But Roshone, who could decide who has to join the army, sent Tien away, as he was not vital to the city. When Kaladin decided to follow Tien in order to protect him, Lirin and Hesina cried, defenselessly, as they lost both sons on this day.{{book ref|b|twok|c|44}}

While instructing Kaladin Lirin told him about the necessitate to always wash hands before doing surgery work.{{book ref|b|twok|c|10}} When Kaladin complained Lirin told him that this wisdom came from the [[Herald]]s who had been sent to teach mankind.
