== Creation ==
Kandra are created through the use of [[Hemalurgy]]. By giving a pair of Hemalurgic metal spikes (referred by kandra as "Blessings") to a mistwraith, it is granted sentience and all the powers of a kandra. The '''First Generation''' were the first kandra created in this manner by the [[Lord Ruler]]. All subsequent generations were then created by the Firsts.
 
The kandra people said they were of Preservation, while the koloss and Inquisitors were of Ruin. Yet, the kandra bore Hemalurgic spikes like the others. Created by the Lord Ruler to be spies, most interpreted it that he planned to use them as spies in his new government, because of their ability to imitate other people. While they were used for this purpose, something much more grand was in their existence. They were the Lord Ruler's double agents, planted with Hemalurgic spikes, making Ruin believe he controlled them. Yet the kandra were trusted — taught, bound — to pull the spikes free when Ruin tried to seize them. In Ruin's moment of triumph, when he'd always assumed the kandra would be his on a whim, the vast majority of them immediately switched sides and left him unable to seize his prize.
