Kaladin told Syl that this better end differently than when he saved Amaram, and Syl promised that it would. Relis ignored Kaladin at first, but payed the price when he got stabbed in a crack in his armor. Kaladin regrouped with Adolin, guarding his back, and said that Adolin needed to break their foes' Shardplate for him, so it would be easier to hit them. Adolin asked Kaladin to distract one foe and to watch out for Renarin while he fought the other two. Kaladin agrees. Kaladin drew Relis' attention while Adolin fought Elit and Jakamav. Relis dueled Kaladin for a short time, but returns to fight Adolin, who was skillfully dueling his two foes. Kaladin used a lashing-enhanced kick to knock Relis down, breaking his own legs in process, though he was able to heal them using Stormlight. Kaladin notices that he cracked some of Relis' shards as well. Adolin's own armor was mostly cracked but he managed to land a strong blow on Elit's chestplate, cracking it slowing Elit greatly. Kaladin saw Abrobadar waving his blade at the ground and Sylphrena exclaimed about something mysterious and flew over toward Renarin. Kaladin used his broken spear to strike Elit in his exposed armor, and forced him to yield.{{book ref|sa2|57}}

The remaining three opponents gathered to battle Adolin, leaving Renarin alone to sit in the sand. Kaladin demanded Elit give him his helm, who complied, and used it as a armored gauntlet. He rushed over to Adolin with a knife in his other hand. Kaladin tricked Relis into backing away, then continues to help Adolin. Relis and Jakamav both tried to attack Kaladin, with Sylphrena circling around him, but he iswas able to dodge their Shardblades, or block them with the helm. That is, until he runsran out of Stormlight, when Kaladin realized the helm drained it from him. Kaladin eventually was backed against a wall, until Adolin appeared and grappled Jakamav to the ground. Kaladin noticed that Abrobadar had been defeated by Adolin as well. Relis, who was the last man standing, rushed toward Renarin, who was vulnerable. Kaladin followsfollowed, and yelled for Renarin to yield, however heRenarin only dismissed his blade, and did nothing more. Relis raised his blade toward Renarin, but ended up swinging it at Kaladin, who isthen able to catchcaught it. Elhokar announced how impressed he was by the duel, and offered Adolin a boon. Kaladin noticed Sadeas trying to leave the arena, but before Sadeas could slip away, Adolin demanded the right to duel Sadeas, right then and there. Kaladin, who realized this was his chance to duel Amaram, also demanded the right to challenge Amaramhim, for his crimes of murder and obstruction of justice, which caused Amaram to cower. Next to Kaladin, Adolin groaned, and the crowd silenced. Elhokar ordered Kaladin to be arrested.{{book ref|sa2|57}}{{book ref|sa2|58}}

After the duel, Dalinar, Elhokar, and Kaladin conversed in Dalinar's rooms. Kaladin sat chained to a seat, while Dalinar and Elhokar argued. Elhokar argued for Kaladin getting punished, Dalinar against. Eventually, they reached a compromise: imprisonment. Elhokar left, and Dalinar berated Kaladin for his actions. Soldiers soon came to take Kaladin, all of them respectful. As he shuffled through the camp, the eyes of soldiers and scribes fell upon him. When Kaladin reached his cell, he promised to never trust a lighteyes ever again.{{book ref|sa2|58}}
