Huio is one of [[Lopen]]'s cousins. He is a short,{{book ref|sa3|111}} bald,{{book ref|sa3.5|11}} beefy man with thick arms.{{book ref|sa2|46}} He is known among Bridge Four for his propensity to visit prostitutes.{{book ref|sa3|35}} His lack of fluency in Alethi is a source of embarrassment to him,{{book ref|sa3|55}} though he gets a sense of satisfaction and pride out of his cooking skill.{{book ref|sa3|37}} He demonstratesis a curious and scientificscientifically mindminded inperson, hisand has a fondness for taking apart fabrials to experiment with them and better understand how they work, though this frequently results in him breaking the fabrial beyond repair.{{book ref|sa3.5|7}}

A few months after the [[Battle of Thaylen Field]], Lopen and Huio were chosen by [[Kaladin]] to join the Thaylen [[expedition to Akinah]] aboard the [[Wandersail (1174 ship)|Wandersail]] as they were the only Windrunners capable of swimming.,{{book ref|sa3.5|4}} Huioand isdid saidnot toyet have their Blades.{{book ref|sa3.5|13}} Huio spendspent the early portions of the trip assisting the crew with shipboard duties.{{book ref|sa3.5|5}} Because of Huio struggles with Alethi, Lopen frequently pullspulled his cousin into conversations to translate jokes. Huio is seen tinkeringtinkered with Rushu's spanreen and the aluminum foil - an activity that ultimately results in the discovery of aluminum-modified [[fabrial]]s.{{book ref|sa3.5|8}} He also seems to have some sense for the behavior of the spren trapped in the fabrial and the implications of aluminum, although it is unclear if this is his own knowledge or if it is related to his bond with [[Caelinora]].

At some point during Lopen's absence, Huio beginsbegan to fightfighting the large hordeling that iswas attacking the Wandersail. Lopen arrivesarrived just in time to rescue Huio from its jaws. The two proceed to fightfought the creature to give the crew time to escape. Lopen tried in vain to swear the Third Ideal. After Lopen's assault fails, and he falls to the ground injured, Huio swearsswore the Third Ideal to save Lopen and proceeds to summonsummoned [[Caelinora]] as a true Shardhammer to shatter the hordeling's arm. Shortly after, Huio killskilled it with a shardspearShardspear through the head. The two escape while Ryns' negotiation continues underground.{{book ref|sa3.5|15}}
Back at the ship, Lopen and Huio discussdiscussed the Third Ideal. Huio, however, swearsexplained that he doesdid not hate Lopen and that the Third Ideal does notdidn't have to involve hatred - although the constant ribbing and teasing from his cousin could be a bit much.
