When Balat finds out his father called for Eylita, he went to confrontconfronts him again. This time however, his father wasis cold and aggressive. The confrontation turnedturns to violence, but Balat wasis not skillful enough even to hurt him (though he brokebreaks his father's hidden Soulcaster though). HisLin fatherinjures however managed to injure hisBalat's leg, but was unable to hurt him further as [[Shallan]] trickedtricks him into sipping some poisoned whinewine, which paralyzedparalyzes him. SheShallan hadkills toher kill himfather with her necklace knowing that, isif he survived, he would not have mercy. {{book ref|sa2|73}}
 
Nan Balat runs the affairs of House Davar in the stead of his dead father while Shallan pursues Jasnah Kholin for a wardship. He communicates with [[Shallan]] via [[Spanreed]]. They barely manage economically, but they know someone will discover their father's death before long. Some men visit Balat and demand the return of his Father's Soulcaster. {{book ref|sa1|29}}
After his father's death and with the Soulcaster broken, they made a plan. Shallan pursued Jasnah Kholin and would try to steal her Soulcaster and Nan Balat ran the affairs of House Davar in the stead of his dead father.
He communicated with [[Shallan]] via [[Spanreed]] and kept up to date with her progress. They slightly managed economically, but knew the lies would not last long before being found. Some men visited and in private with him, they implied they knew of his Father's Soulcaster and suggested strongly to return it to them. {{book ref|sa1|29}}
 
[[Jasnah Kholin]] steps in to help theirHouse houseDavar {{book ref|sa2|1}} but uponeverything is lost during the rebellionupheaval in Jah Keved they lost everything. By order of MrazieMraize, heBalat and his brothers are saved and taken to Urithiru toas meet with Shallan asa "gift" to Shallan for her services to the Ghostbloods.. {{book ref|sa3|122}}
