Calmseer was [[Lightsong]]'s mentor when he first Returned. She truly cared about her followers, doing what she could for each petitioner she denied.{{book ref|wb|47}} She often spoke to Lightsong of her feelings of guilt at refusing to grant a petition. She had dinner with [[Lightsong]] and [[Allmother]] the night before she gave her [[Breath]] away.{{book ref|wb|42}}
Lightsong often reflects that Calmseer was the most divine among the recent generations of Hallandren Returned. Allmother agrees with him. {{book ref|wb|42}} He believes that her guilt about the petitions is what drove her to grant a request.{{book ref|wb|47}} Actually the request Calmseer grants is the reason she Returned in the first place: the petitioner was Calmseer's daughter from her first life, asking for healing from the same disease that killed Calmseer herself.
