Mist is a term used to refer to a phenomenon on the world of Scadrial. While it does indeed resemble ordinary mist it exhibits many unusual properties.

Composition
The Mist is a gaseous manifestation of Preservation's's power similar to both the liquid in the Well of Ascension and the beads of Lerasium. The Mist is far less dense than the liquid as such is more limited in what can be done with it than the liquid. Where the liquid can be used to do great things from moving planets to changing or creating living creatures the Mist seems to only be able to function as fuel for allomancy.

After the Final Ascension
After Sazed picked up both Shards, becoming Harmony more then one type of Mist began appearing and the Mists no longer obscured the land every night. There are now two types of Mists, one representing Ruin (a darker mist) and other Preservation. Where the mists are, Harmony can more directly influence things. The mist appear to have be come a more localized phenomenon only covering a section of land each night not the whole land. The Mists no longer Snap People as they once did, but how this is done now is unknown however it is now easier to Snap people because Sazed disliked how it was done before.{{qa ref|704|26|Sazed chose to alter the way Snapping works.
