The '''Hoed''' are a group of post-[[Reod]] [[Elantrian]]s that have accumulated so many injuries that they become effectively comatose from the pain.{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|4}}

After the [[Reod]], the Elantrian people stopped self-healing and so any injuries, however minor, never stopped causing them pain. Since the Elantrians stayed immortal, some sank beneath the weight of the their pain, losing their minds, staying mostly at the same place and a lot of them always mumbled their own mantra.{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|4}}

[[Raoden]] collects the hoed together in a building in [[New Elantris]], which they called the [[Hall of the Fallen]],{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|25}} where they are cared for.{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|19}} Raoden, too, is not immune to it.
