Part of me wonders if this was a carrot that Brandon dangled in front of the readers, a clue as to what happened with Adonalsium. Obviously, Kelsier would have no knowledge of Adonalsium or the Shards at this point in the story, but Brandon probably did, and I wouldn't be surprised if he sprinkled clues here and there throughout his early books. But it makes me wonder: before Adonalsium shattered, was there someone - or a group - that was determined to remove it, realized that they couldn't remove it as one, giant entity, and then decided to shatter it so that the remnants would destroy each other?
