===El Asedio a Luthadel ===

Mientras tanto, Sazed, que estaba enseñando cerca de las Tierras Quemadas, había encontrado una tablilla escrita por Kwaan que hablaba del Héroe de las Eras en el interior del [[convento de Seran]]. Zane y Vin atacan y masacran a casi toda la guardia de Cett, pero Vin decide perdonar a Cett y a su hijo porque se da cuenta de que ha hecho algo malo. Cett abandona la ciudad y retira su ejército de las llanuras que rodean Luthadel, dejando a Straff y a los koloss en un punto muerto.

Meanwhile Sazed, who was teaching near the burnlands, had found a tablet written by Kwaan speaking of the Hero of Ages inside the [[Conventical of Seran]]. Hoping to get this information to his fellow Keepers Sazed began a return journey to Luthadel, but ran across a third army, made of koloss, lead by Elend's old friend, [[Jastes Lekal]]. At Sazed's request another Keeper, [[Tindwyl]] came to Luthadel, to help Elend become a better leader. She helped him become a man that people wanted to follow but it was too late because the assembly in their fear of Cett, Straff, and the koloss deposed Elend as king. The assembly had to choose a new king of Luthadel, their choices included, Elend, the noble [[Ferson Penrod]], and Cett, who wants to be elected leader, and has chosen to take up residence in the city. Vin then came to a revelation that the mists had once been the Deepness, which she confided in Sazed, so he began his studies with Tindwyl into the ancient lore of the Hero of Ages and the Deepness. Vin also realized that she was being followed by the same mist spirit that followed Alendi, and that she could also hear the sounds of the Well of Ascension refilling. Straff's Mistborn son, [[Zane]], convinced Vin that she should attack Cett's keep, so that he can't hurt Elend. Zane and Vin attack, and slaughter nearly all of Cett's guard, but Vin chooses to spare Cett and his son because she realizes that she has done something wrong. Cett leaves the city and withdraws his army from the plains surrounding Luthadel, leaving Straff and the koloss locked in a stalemate.

Clubs wisely realized that Straff Venture was wily enough to simply feign a retreat, allowing the koloss to overthrow Luthadel. Then Straff himself would return, destroy the weakened koloss, and be proclaimed as the city's savior. Sazed knew that it was only a matter of time until their destruction, and realized that he had to save Elend and Vin. With the help of the remainder of Kelsier's crew he hatched a plot. Sazed tricked Vin into believing that he knew the location of the Well of Ascension, and sent her Elend, and Spook on a journey following a false map to what she believed is the only hope of Luthadel's salvation. After Vin and Elend leave the koloss fell on the city in attack. Clubs is killed fleeing from his gate with Breeze. Dockson and Tindwyl also fall to various groups of marauding koloss. Sazed in control of Iron Gate manages to hold off the koloss with the help of his Feruchemical powers. Just as his metalminds lost the last of their chares, Vin returned to help him fight. Spook had confessed that they were being tricked to Vin so she had gone back to Luthadel to try to stop the koloss. Unfortunately her Allomantic reserves were low, and before long she was out of pewter, which she had been dragging on for months. Just before the koloss overwhelm her, Vin burns [[duralumin]] and [[brass]] simultaneously, managing to take control of the koloss through their Hemalurgic spikes. She used her new found power to quickly turn the tide of the battle, by taking control of all the rest of the koloss. The next day the koloss and the remnants of Luthadel's army attacked Straff's army. Cett's army joined in to attack Straff as well, he had been convinced to do so by his daughter [[Allrianne]], who was in love with Breeze. Vin personally split Straff Venture in half with a massive koloss sword, and proceeded to utterly destroy Straff's troops. She then made Penrod, Cett, and Staff's sole surviving general [[Janarle]] to swear allegiance to Elend as their emperor.

Clubs se dio cuenta sabiamente de que Straff Venture era lo suficientemente astuto como para simplemente fingir una retirada, permitiendo así que los koloss derrotaran a Luthadel. Entonces el propio Straff regresaría, destruiría a los debilitados koloss y sería proclamado como el salvador de la ciudad. Sazed sabía que sólo era cuestión de tiempo que llegase su destrucción, y se dio cuenta de que tenía que salvar a Elend y a Vin. Con la ayuda del resto del equipo de Kelsier urdió un plan. Sazed engañó a Vin haciéndole creer que conocía la ubicación del Pozo de la Ascensión, y la envió junto a Elend y Fantasma en un viaje siguiendo un mapa falso hacia lo que ella creía que era la única esperanza de salvación para Luthadel. Después de que Vin y Elend se fueran, los koloss lanzaron su ataque sobre la ciudad. Clubs es asesinado al huir de su puerta con Brisa. Dockson y Tindwyl también caen ante varios grupos de koloss merodeadores. Sazed, quien se encargaba de la Puerta de Hierro, consigue mantener a raya a los koloss con la ayuda de sus poderes feruquímicos. Justo cuando sus mentes de metal se quedaron vacías, Vin regresó para ayudarle a luchar. Fantasma le había confesado a Vin que los estaban engañando, así que había vuelto a Luthadel para intentar detener a los koloss. Por desgracia, sus reservas alománticas eran escasas, y en poco tiempo se quedó sin estaño, el cual llevaba meses dosificando. Justo antes de que los koloss la arrollaran, Vin quema [[duraluminio]] y [[latón]] simultáneamente, logrando tomar el control de los koloss a través de sus clavos hemalúrgicos. Utilizó su nuevo poder para cambiar rápidamente el rumbo de la batalla, tomando el control del resto de los koloss. Al día siguiente, los koloss y los restos del ejército de Luthadel atacaron al ejército de Straff. El ejército de Cett, convencido este por su hija [[Allrianne Cett|Allrianne]] para hacerlo ya que estaba enamorada de Brisa, se unió también para atacar a Straff. La propia Vin partió a Straff Venture por la mitad con una enorme espada koloss, y procedió a destruir por completo las tropas de Straff. Luego hizo que Penrod, Cett y el único general superviviente de Staff, [[Janarle]], juraran lealtad a Elend como su emperador.
