Lifeforce admirescontemplates one of the wealthpaintings ofin his homepalace, mentally comparing Lux to Rome: a perfect city amidst the horrible outside. He mentally compares the Reckoners to a colony of beetles, chewing away at his achievement. Lifeforce feels thesudden tremors and callsradios hisa guardRaven, who watchdoesn’t himknow upwhat’s going on. Later a Raven arrives and tells him of the fightconfrontation between LanguishWingflare and WingflareLanguish. InLanguish hisbecomes angerenraged, and contemplates violently dismembering the Raven. Instead, he destroys histhe ownpainting, slashing through each person in the painting over and over with a knife. Lifeforce orders the Ravens to find Languish and Wingflare, then leaves for his artlab.
