After Szeth first attacks Dalinar, Adolin begins to respect Kaladin. He still thinks that the man is keeping secrets, as he saw the assassin hit Kaladin with his Shardblade, but he keeps them to himself. However, when he jumps into the arena with nothing but a spear to save Adolin and Renarin, causing them to win the battle, Adolin realizes that no matter what secrets he's keeping, the man is genuine, and so confines himself to prison for the duration of Kaladin's sentence. After they both leave, Adolin strikes up a conversation, and believes Kaladin instantly when he asks if his accusations about Amaram were truthful, saying that even Dalinar--the most honorable man he knows--loses his temper and has a troubled past, but Amaram's seeming perfection stinks too much of a man who works very hard to keep his reputation clean. When he arrives back at camp, he tries to give a set of the Shards he won to Kaladin, and is surprised when he gives them straight to Moash. However, Kaladin replies that too many of his friends have been killed by Blades, and since he is capable of fighting Szeth without Shards, there will be one extra person to defend Dalinar against the assassin when he next comes.
