As a Lifeless, Arsteel cannot be detected through the innate Lifesense that all sentient beings with breath possess. This makes them well suited to stealth missions.

Jewels was in love with Arsteel, which is the primary reason she joined Denth’s team in the first place. She is still in love with him, despite his being a Lifeless, sleeps with him on occasion, and is a little bit unhinged emotionally and mentally because of his death.<ref name="wb|annotation|22p2" />

Arsteel joined Denth's team because he wanted to try to redeem Denth; he felt that a reconciliation between Denth and Vasher was possible, and as a peacemaker, he thought he might be able to make it happen. <ref name="wb|annotation|22p2" />
