Where regular highstormshighstorms are productscommanded ofby the Stormfather, aand splintercarry ofwith them Honor's Investiture, the Everstorm is not of Honor. It is of Odium. The stormIt travels from west to east, opposite the direction of traditional highstorms.sa2 attracts stormspren and has the unique physical feature of red lightning. This has obvious and terrible consequences for the other inhabitants of Roshar. Past that initial wave, the Everstorm is nearly completely black, filled with ash carried by violent winds.sa3 This being said, even within a single passing, the conditions within the Everstorm vary greatly. Sometimes, it carried no wind, only lightning; other times, it rains, and yet other, burning embers fall from the skies.sa3 Where the Everstorm's lightning hits appears to be under either Odium's or some other entity's control, as it's capable of targeting individual buildings.sa3
Summoning
Just what commands the Everstorm is uncertain. Pattern suggests it's a spren of some kind serving Odium.sa2 Odium himself can excercise a level of control, stopping the storm at will.sa3 Whether there is some separate entity commanding the Everstorm is left ambiguous, and if such a spren exists, it's yet to make itself known.12269

Frequency
Everstorm/Timeline
The Everstorm moves somewhat slower than a highstorm. It takes roughly nine days to circle the entire globe, and three to cross the Rosharan continent.sa2.5sa3 This being said, its time of arrival does fluctuate slightly, and precise predictions can be inaccurate. Fortunately, its high visibility and slow movement give the people of Roshar plenty of time to seek shelter.sa3 It is not yet clear whether the Everstorm's frequency is affected by the time of the year or other variables.

Odium is capable of altering the Everstorm's speed as he desires. He can accelerate it, pushing it to go around the planet in as little as five days. He can also halt it to a full stop and hold it in place for hours.sa3 The one time the Everstorm was stopped like this, it eventually dispassated, but later return to round the planet in its usual pattern.sa3sa3

Influence and Magic
The Everstorm is a paramount threat to the inhabitants of Roshar, mainly because of its destructive power and direction opposite to highstorm. All structures and houses on Roshar are built in a way that protects them from the westward-blowing highstorms, while allowing for lesser protection on the leeward side -- the very side the Everstorm now strikes from. Areas once thought safe, such as laits and mountainsides, are utterly defenseless against a force as potent as an Everstorm blowing east.sa3 The consequences of this are readily apparent after just a single passing of the Everstorm, with once-wonderous cities like Thaylen ravaged and turned to rubble.sa3

When the Everstorm and the highstorm clash, the effects are even more destructive, as the two storms feed from each other, becoming more and more powerful until they pass by and return to normal.9192 Swathes of terrain can be destroyed, with entire plateaus of rock launched high into the sky.sa2 To be on the ground when the two storms meet is a death sentence.sa3 Fortunately for Rosharans, after the Battle of Narak the two storms never clash over populated areas, either accidentally or by Stormfather's design.sa3

The Everstorm has numerous magical effects. It attracts stormspren and, presumably, other voidspren.sa2 It also carries the Fused, souls of long-dead singers who serve Odium in numerous lives.sa3 Through an Everstorm, the Fused can possess any singers who open themselves up to them, killing the original mind and replacing it, while retaining their own personality, powers and use of Surges.sa3 While in the previous Desolations, the Fused would be sent back to Braize upon their bodies' death, during the True Desolation they instead come back to the Everstorm, allowing them to be reborn as many times as there are singer bodies available for them.sa3

Finally, the Everstorm releases any Parshmen who come into contact with it from slaveform, restoring their Identity and Connection.sa3 Such reawakened singers take on a non-slave form. What form this is appears to be random, although they seem to all be ordinary ones rather than Odium-fuelled Regal forms.sa3

As Alethi forces approached Narak the Listeners awaited them and began singing a new song. Rlain warned Dalinar that the song should not be allowed to be finished under any circumstances. Dalinar subsequently ordered Adolin to stop the song at all costs. A daring attack was launched by Adolin on a group of reserve Listeners, who were leading the song. During the battle, Adolin defeated the Parshendi Shard bearer Eshonai, but they were too late.

Predictions
The Everstorm crashed into a regular highstorm, which was produced by the Stormfather. The resulting tempest was capable of breaking and throwing entire plateaus from the Shattered Plains into the sky. sa2
The Everstorm did not exist prior to the True Desolation, although the underlying mechanisms were already in place.sa2 Its arrival was, however, predicted multiple times by the end of the Era of Solitude, both in numerous Death Rattles and in Dalinar's visions. On most occassions, it was listed alongside with the True Desolation and the Night of Sorrows.sa1sa1 Renarin likewise had numerous visions about the Everstorm's arrival, though without its name, complete with a precise countdown to its coming.sa2

Rounding RosharSummoning
The real possibility of summoning a storm was first put forth by Venli when researching stormform.sa2 After assuming the form, Eshonai confirmed it as a possibility, although she either believed or claimed to believe that what she suggested was an ordinary highstorm. Without consulting with the ruling Council of Five, she planned for every able-bodied listener to take on the stormform and call the Everstorm into existence.sa2
In Yeddaw Lift heard reports that the Everstorm had started to strike countries in the west of Roshar. It was reported to be moving slower than a regular Highstorm.Edgedancer She was present as the storm struck Yeddaw. There was no stormwall as in a regular Highstorm.Edgedancer Nale saw the storm and parshmen wearing Stormform and was convinced that he failed in preventing the return of the desolations.

As Alethi forces approached Narak, the Listenerslisteners awaited them and began singing a new song that would summon the Everstorm. Rlain warned Dalinar that theit song should notmustn't be allowed to be finished under any circumstances., leading Dalinar subsequentlyto orderedorder Adolin to stop the song at all costsit.sa2 daringAdolin attackand washis forces launched byan Adolinattack on athe group of reserve Listeners, who werelisteners leading the song., Duringand thealthough battle, they Adolinmanaged defeatedto slaughter the Parshendisingers Shardand bearerdefeat Eshonai, but they were too late.sa2
Fused
The Fused are ancestors of the singers. They are bonded with a modern singer, a process which kills the singer they bonded with, and have access to powers similar to surgebinding. If a Fused is killed, they are reborn during the Everstorm, assuming they can find a parshman body willing to latch onto, or at least one that cannot refuse entry of a Fused.

The resulting Everstorm arrived from the west and clashed with the highstorm over Narak, leading to widespread destruction. Although Shallan managed to transport most of the Alethi units to Urithiru, sparing them from the worst of the clash, those who did not make it onto the Oathgate platform in time were killed.sa2sa3

True Desolation
The Everstorm then became a new regular fixture of Roshar's weather system, coming in regular nine-day intervals.sa3 In its first passing, it devastated numerous cities in its wake, with particular focus on Thaylen City, which Odium was preparing for an upcoming battle.sa3 It also broke the Parshmen out of slaveform and, in subsequent passings, allowed the Fused to enter the Physical Realm.sa3sa3

Odium brought the Everstorm with him to the Battle of Thaylen Field, using it to bring his fleet closer to the Thayeln shore before stopping it just out of the city.sa3 Following the battle, the Everstorm dissipated, although it later returned back to its regular cycle.sa3sa3
The Everstorm typically moves at a much slower rate than highstorms, with an average speed about three times slower.10221 Kaladin notes that one has plenty of time to seek shelter after spotting the storm's arrival.sa3 At these speeds, the Everstorm takes nearly three days to cross the mainland of Roshar. The Everstorm returns at fairly regular intervals of approximately nine days, seeming to circle the planet.sa3 Though the recurrence is much more regular that of the highstorms, the time of arrival does fluctuate slightly, and precise predictions for the arrival time are sometimes inaccurate.sa3 It is not yet clear whether the frequency of the Everstorm's arrival is affected by the time of the year or other variables. Odium appears to exert some measure of control over the Everstorm's speed. On the day of the Battle of Thaylen Field, he caused the storm to arrive 4 days earlier than usual--crossing most of Roshar within a day--before stopping it in place until it dissipated at the end of the battle.sa3sa3 The Everstorm seems to have resumed its normal nine day cycle following these events.sa3
