Following the [[Reod]], Ahan rose to prominence in [[Iadon]]'s income-based meritocracy. His fortune was second only to Duke [[Roial]], with whom Ahan shared a friendly rivalry. {{ref|b|e|c|11}} Ahan, along with Roial and several others, was part of [[Sarene]]'s resistance to [[Hrathen]]'s efforts to convert Arelon.

Shortly after [[Telrii]] seized control of Arelon in the wake of Iadon's death, Ahan betrayed the group of resisters in an effort to finally best his long-time rival. Things took a turn for the unexpected, though, when Roial was killed for treason.{{ref|b|e|c|53}} Ahan never recovered from the guilt of his betrayal. He lost much of his weight, and thereafter only spoke only in a dazed, sickly voice.{{ref|b|e|c|Epilogue}}
