{!{magic |related=Investiture, Shards |universe=Cosmere }} Oh god, why do I do this to myself.

Creation

I know there's stuff out there on the creation of the Metallic Arts. How it's an interaction between a Shard and a planet, how much a Shard can influence or change things, blah blah blah

Initiation

Since Initiation or lack thereof seems to be the primary determinant of if something's an Invested Art, this should just be a redirect here until we get confirmation otherwise.

Mechanics

Maybe not the right name for this, but we need a place for trends and notable exceptions in how Invested Arts work. Perception, Intention, maybe throw Initiation in here as a subsection instead of it getting its own h2. Basically everything in the Elantris Ars Arcanum.

Categories

I suppose we have to talk about end-positive, end-negative, and end-neutral stuff somewhere, don't we. Here probably works better than the Investiture page.

In the Alloy of Law Ars Arcanum, the author categorizes the three Metallic Arts.[1] Every type of Investiture can be classified along these categories.[2]

End-positive Investiture

When practicing an end-positive Investiture, the practitioner draws in power from an external source.[1] The practitioner gains power from the external source. The Investiture is positive in that it adds -- in most cases temporarily -- power to the practitioner. Most types of Investiture are end-positive.[2]

Allomancy draws Investiture from Preservation in a similar way to AonDor pulling power from the Dor; both are considered End-Positive since they add power to the Allomancer or Elantrian. Allomantic Atium draws power from Ruin's concentrated Physical form, but is still considered End-Positive as the power comes from an outside source. Stormlight acts as an external source to the Surges, so the system is also end-positive.

End-neutral Investiture

For an act of Investiture to be considered end-neutral, power is neither gained nor lost[1]. A practitioner manipulates power that already exists or power that comes from themselves.

Feruchemy is end-neutral, since the amount of Investiture remains constant. Awakening is also considered end-neutral, even though color is lost.[3]

End-negative Investiture

In the practice of an end-negative Investiture, some power is lost.[1] End-negative Investiture is very rare.[2]

Hemalurgy is end-negative. Investiture held in a spike outside the body decays.

Known Invested Arts

A quick rundown by planet of every Invested Art we know. Point out things unique to the Invested Arts of each planet, like Sel being location based and Scadrial being all metallic. Vax will be fun. "This place this is technically not even confirmed as a place yet has a form of Initiation so probably has at least one Invested Art.
