[[Vasher]] attempts to break into the palace to stop Denth, but Denth and his mercenaries ambush and captures him; [[Vivenna]] soon comes to his rescue. When Vasher confronts fifty soldiers shortly after, he draws [[Nightblood]] and slays with incredible fury, nearly draining him of his Breaths. Denth then challenges him to a duel. Although he fights with divine strength and ancient skill, Vasher is no match for the peerless Dent. Just before the last blow falls, Vasher bestows his few remaining Breaths upon Denth, stunning him, followed by a lethal thrust of the sword.{{book ref|wb|57}}{{wob ref|7469}}.
