Longroots are, as their name suggests, a type of long tuber that contains a sticky sap.{{book ref|sa1|37}} They grow in cracks in the rock where stormwater collects.{{book ref|sa1|37}} As a result, longroots are covered in dirt and [[crem]] from the [[highstorm]]s when they are harvested.{{book ref|sa1|37}} They are brown in color.{{book ref|sa1|37}}

 

Longroots are easy to grow and are cultivated and eaten in many regions of Roshar.{{book ref|sa1|37}}{{book ref|sa1|72}} They are not known for their taste, which is faintly reminiscent of minerals.{{book ref|sa1|37}} Longroots are cheap, and are often eaten only when alternatives are not readily available.{{book ref|sa1|37}} Since they are tubers, they have a long shelf life; they can be boxed and put into storage{{book ref|sa1|72}} and can be transported by caravan.{{book ref|sa3|23}}
