The Sibling is known to have been alive for at least thousands of years{{book ref|sa3|111}} and possibly much longer, since they likely predate the founding of the [[Knights Radiant]]. Despite being inactive for milleniamillennia, they still exist in their previous form;{{wob ref|13032}} this implies that they are functionally immortal. The Sibling does not view themselves as having a gender.{{wob ref|11572}}

Whilst the Nightwatcher and the Stormfather are known to be connected to [[Cultivation]] and [[Honor]] respectively, the Sibling is the child of both [[Honor]] and [[Cultivation]].{{book ref|sa3|42}} The Stormfather considers all three of them to be "siblings", and the fact that they are the only three spren that can bond with Bondsmiths{{book ref|sa3|64}} inidicatesindicates that they share some characteristics.

A series of notes presumably left by an [[Elsecaller]] in drawer 1-1 of the [[Urithiru gem archive]] directly linked the presence of the Sibling to the health of the tower city. The entries related the decline of the tower's functionality (particularly with respect to habitation failures) to the withdrawal of the Sibling, although some functions remained operational.{{epigraph ref|sa3|68}}{{epigraph ref|sa3|69}} The Sibling can communicate with people who are touching the veins of garnet within the walls of [[Urithiru]] by speaking directly into their minds.{{book ref|sa4|55}} The Sibling can lock any door in [[Urithiru]] so that no one can open them.{{book ref|sa4|55}}

The Sibling is capable of producing its own investiture known as [[Towerlight]], a mixture of [[Lifelight]] and [[Stormlight]], which they use to power the fabrials in Urithuru. They need to be able to harmonize the songs of [[Honor]] and [[Cultivation]] in order to produce [[Towerlight]].{{book ref|sa4|110}}

The Sibling was somehow the key to certain magical aspects of the tower city of Urithiru that served as the base of the [[Knights Radiant]]. Notably, the Sibling's presence was linked to the climate of the city, allowing the temperature to stay unnaturally warm given Urithiru's elevation. This allowed the Radiants to cultivate crops in the city to sustain the large population there.{{epigraph ref|sa3|68}}{{epigraph ref|sa3|69}} At some point, the Sibling began to withdraw from the tower.
