The '''True Desolation''' is mentioned throughout the [[The Way of Kings]], the first book of the [[Stormlight Archive]]. It appears that the True Desolation will be somehow different from the previous hundred [[Desolation|Desolations]]s that were said to have occurred.
 
Both [[Kaladin]] and [[Dalinar Kholin]] havereceived visions where they are warnedwarning that the True Desolation comes.

The [[Oathpact]] has been broken by the [[Heralds]]. [[Talenel'Elin]] was left upholding it alone. In the last chapter of the [[The Way of Kings]], someone claiming to be Talenel appears, says he failed, and falls to the ground, apparently dead. If Talenel truly failed, then the [[Oathpact]] has been broken, which may leave the possibility for a "True Desolation" to occur.
