The first four books were originally published by [[Scholastic]], one a year between 2007 and 2010. Due to disagreements between Brandon and Scholastic on the cover art and editing processes of the books, the fifth and final book was postponed indefinitely.{{cite}} After Scholastic's contract lapsed, Brandon bought back the rights and sold them to [[Tor]], who republished them with new art in 2016 before releasing the final book, [[The Dark Talent]], in September 2016.
