== History ==
Jam is two years older than [[Kaladin]]. His's father served as a soldier in [[Meridas Amaram|Brightlord Amaram]]'s army where; he gotwas injured and was left with a lame leg, which [[Lirin]] operated on. Lirin doubted that, due to Jam's age difference with Kaladin, that he would like to spend time with Kaladin, but Kaladin and [[Tien]] watched Jam while he was trained in the quarterstaff by his father.{{book ref|sa1|10}}
 
Jam resided in Hearthstone at the time of its evacuation to [[Urithiru]] and afterwards lived with the rest of the refugees on the sixth floor. When [[Raboniel]] and her forces invaded the tower, he found a spear somewhere and tried to resist them. He was injured in the attempt, and likely [[Hesina]] then tended to him.{{book ref|sa4|39}}
It's unclear whether Jam is the same as another [[Jam (caravaneer)|Jam]], who was a caravaneer.{{book ref|sa3|45}}
