Navani

Hey there Synth, thanks for coming over here to help! I see you just moved the gallery to the bottom of the article. Our style guide is to put the gallery in the Appearance and Personality section, and any See Also links should go above the notes. I know you're probably used to Wikia's style of automatically generating such links and galleries and where they go, but we're not looking to change our overall layout just at the moment (it's up for debate, but it's set up that way for now at least). I hope you're not too confused or put off by the wiki markup editor and our somewhat-magical templates. I'm going to undo your changes to Navani's layout (though thank you for picking up on the misspelling of History XD oops), and I look forward to seeing more of your contributions. --02:08, 15 November 2017 (MST)

Do whatever you want! What I'm used to doing is things as I see them aesthetically; I don't follow wikia's automatic rules!
If you guys really want me here ... I'm not used to Wikia's anything! I am self-taught by necessity! If you don't like my edits, forget it! I'm gone! You see? That's exactly why I haven't joined the conglomerationm in the past!
Hey Synth. Apologies if I came across as dismissive or condescending, that wasn't my intention at all. And honestly, we're all really looking forward to your additions to our content, but the structure and layout of the articles is intentional since we have over 3000 articles we want there to be a good look over them all. As I said we're totally up for discussing changes to said structure and policy, and we welcome your input on that too! --Joe ST (talk) 02:57, 15 November 2017 (MST)

Citing information without references

On the SA wiki, I can type {{Cite}} (which is obviously a template) at the end of a passage to indicate that such a passage needs verification whenever it doesn't otherwise exist. Just how do I do that here? I mean, I've already encountered information that isn't book referenced and believe that it should be. Please enlighten me! Thanks folks!

For example, at Chaos' suggestion, I'm focusing my attention right now on Mistborn pages to avoid Oathbringer spoilers, because I've not yet read the book. That said, in attempting to reference a statement regarding Wayne on Waxillium Ladrian's page, I'm at a loss. Help!

Hey there Synth, do exactly what you just did, typing {{cite}} indicates what you think. if you're wanting to reference an era 2 chapter you should be able to {{book ref|mb5|3}} for example will add a reference to Shadows of Self chapter 5. from what I've seen of the wikia you work on I think a lot of the templates you're using were copied from us in about 2012 by one of your predecessors mbg, after they spat the dummy out over here. So that means you shouldn't have much trouble using our templates as they are very similar to the ones you're used to. If you look at the template page for cite, you'll also see {{clarify}}, {{disputed}}, and {{expand}} for any situations where you'd note those kinds of properties about a sentence/paragraph in the article. --Joe ST (talk) 02:30, 1 December 2017 (MST)

Actually, JoeST, I don't know just which one of my SA wiki predecessors did anything because I haven't pursued that avenue. What I do know is that the SA wiki landed in my lap after every admin there departed it for 17th ... and one of them made me admin there before he left. I've cherished this responsibility and doing so has required a lot of learning from me about something with which I was only becoming familiar at the time. I'm much more versed in the language now, but still don't know its source content. So, I'm thrilled to be involved in 17th now, but feel I remain responsible for the SA wiki; I receive email updates on every edit to the site on a daily basis and don't want the site to fall into disarray. I remain extremely interested in the representation of fan art on-site because there is so much of it of such high quality!

Recent Coppermind Activity

There used to be a right rail column on SA wiki that listed recent site activity (i.e., recent edits to pages or additions of pages, etc. to the wiki). Personally, I can now only access it there on individual pages as Admin due to Fandom (i.e., the host site) changes. However, it remains accessible to all who access the main page of the SA wiki. Still, I'm curious to know just why this feature doesn't exist here. I'm interested in knowing just which articles have most recently been contributed to or created on Coppermind. This goes a long way in preventing the replication of certain articles under differing titles. It also would alert contributors to new features. I guess I'm making a suggestion ... and/or a plea; I'd like to see a right rail account of Coppermind articles that have most recently been edited and just how many times done so. Is this too much to ask? I don't know.

I remain relatively new here and haven't done all that much. I have no idea whether anyone has made such a request in the past; I only know that such a feature has been a boon to contributors to the SA wiki, and certainly to me, as the site's Administrator. I think such a feature could benefit the Coppermind as it would afford contributors a reference they might access before repeating an entry already logged into an article. I implore any and all to respond to this inquiry. Thank you.

Hey Synth. I'm not farmiliar with SA wiki features, but it sounds like you want the Special: RecentChanges page. You can access it easily by clicking Recent Changes on the left side of the page, in the list of links under the Coppermind symbol. I hope this helps you! --thegatorgirl00 (talk) 22:11, 10 December 2017 (MST)
Hey Synth. Indeed Special: RecentChanges is possibly as close as you'll get to the 'recently edited pages' lists that adorn wikia. It is, in fact, my homepage, and I similarly use it to monitor site activity like you presumably do. It's probably no where near as legible or simple as the wikia alternative as it lists every edit to a page, rather than just that the page has been edited most-recently. I've had a look around the other special pages, and not found a direct equivalent for you, and I hope you'll forgive us for that. --Joe ST (talk) 02:11, 10 December 2017 (MST)

Thank you for this information! I'm going to have to get used to looking at the left rail here.--Synth (talk) 07:10, 12 December 2017 (MST) And, do I have to type all that stuff to the left, or is it generated automatically?

Hey Synth. if you're talking about the signature that can be inserted with --~~~~ if you mean the :'s that start our replies, we put those in ourselves to indent the conversation a little. If you mean the stuff in the left rail, then that's part of the coppermind itself. I don't think users can edit it. --Joe ST (talk) 00:33, 13 December 2017 (MST)
