I hope you are doing well! Thank you for your help so far. This is an extremely busy month with a Stormlight novella and a Stormlight novel! I just want to let you know that the staff has seen your messages on various talk pages. We're pretty focused on managing the hordes of new content and new editors, so it might take us a while to get through your talk page messages. At this point, it does seem prudent to focus more on the new articles than wider structural changes or new sections for things. There will be soooo much work to do Tuesday! In the meantime, if you'd like to discuss some of these things on our Coppermind Editors Discord, we'd love to see you! We've found Coppermind editing has been so much easier with our Discord server. It seems you are a Wikipedia editor, but culturally, we are a pretty small community with a coordinated vision and single set of staff members. We do tend to use Discord more for editing discussion. Wait, so sometime after this message was written you also demoted me from being an editor? What was my "offense"? That frankly feels a little passive-aggressive. I was in the middle of a badly-needed page about the Rosharan calendar, but now that I can't even create it and am sensing some hostility, I don't really see any reason to try to finish. At this point, I guess I might just try to search for a different Cosmere website to work on. I would've preferred to stick with this wiki - the name is quite inspired, options are few, and this one has the most momentum - but presently I think this particular community is too centralized, dogmatic, reactionary, and like you said, cliquey, for a newcomer like me to feel welcome or to have any desire to contribute further.

And regarding priorities, postponing needed structural fixes goes against the cost of defects principle, where the longer you wait, the more costly the solution ends up being. This week would've been a great time to make upgrades before the flood of information and interest for Rhythm of War. For instance, on the statistics pages, there's a fair amount of work involved in getting each line updated as is, but with just a few simple changes it could've been made so that the process to update it when a book comes out would've been a breeze. It's a moot point now that I'm leaving the wiki, but that was all my response was going to be about before I noticed that my user rights were also being restricted for some reason. Good morning! I apologize; I should have notified you regarding this. We would mostly just like you to discuss page creations, so we can discuss and deliberate such things. Regarding the Rosharan calendar, that is currently a section on the Roshar page that could definitely been expanded. That has been a subject of discussion for many years. There's kind of a lot of things going on there, and we are worried that since the calendar has no canonical name just would make such an article difficult to find. It would be much easier if we knew its name... So I guess what I'm saying is that there are things you may not know, so maybe let's talk about them? :) Anyway, I do apologize. I really should have notified you about the user rights change. We just want to discuss new pages. Sometimes there may be a different way to structure things.

Regarding structural fixes: I do not agree with your assessment. We are less than a week away, and we have an entire novella to work on. I saw your comment on a possible Battle infobox, and while that *could* be useful, I'm not sure what parameters would be too distinct to warrant it. Plus if we did implement it, there would be a lot of backwork to do. I would just say that Stormlight releases are by far the busiest time on the wiki ever, and we're getting two of them. There is really not enough time to properly think through upgrades. I think it would be better to go slowly and carefully instead of half-baking an infobox and applying it to a bunch of pages. Also, specifically regarding your example on the book statistical analysis pages: jofwu (timeline extraordinaire) has a spreadsheet that generates the entire chart from word counts. So again, I would just say that maybe there are some things you don't know?

I am sorry you feel that we are too centralized. I imagine Wikipedia is very different, but we do feel that having centralization in our staff with our team decisions makes the wiki better, not worse. It means there is consistency across our 3000+ articles in content, style, and templates. I feel this may be a cultural difference (correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem like you are an avid Wikipedia editor) to what you are used to. We may have some different priorities, and in this way, it would indeed be extremely useful so we could discuss things and hash those out. -- Chaos2651 (talk) 17:26, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
