Earthquales are a believed extinct race on Roshar. Many theories regarding their genealogy link them with modern greatshells. The pictures in Jasnah's book, however, may contain the last surviving image of an earthquale; one that fans speculate to be a Voidbringer is infact closer in description of appearance to the legendary earthquales.
Ruling in mythic years, earthquales kept the land together, with their might and strength they were the pillars in the cavernous undergrounds that, without their presense in the modern day, cracked and splintered to form the Shattered Plains. Without their presense much of Roshar's landscape changed and the Highstorms ravaged where once the mighty earthquales kept them at bay.
Their downfall is a mystery, but it is said Bacon may have played a fundamental role in their demise. Earthquales were greatly tempted by Bacon's offering of succulent treats and many travelled to Shadesmar, never returning to Roshar. For they had tasted the bacon, and it was good. Bacon.
